Custom Wiki Pages SharePoint 2010
Use Case • Customer: Micron Developer Community • Developers supporting in-house systems they didn’t write • Wanted a single-page, per-system method for documenting in-house system info • Liked ‘Wiki’ capabilities (cross-linking, formatting) • Product eval indicated SharePoint for information mgmt • Lots of freedom, but NO formatting standards • Can we customize to customers’ needs? YES
What’s involved… • Site Columns • Content Types • Layout Pages • Formatting • Anchors
The Process • Create Site Columns • If Wiki and you want cross-linking within the text, column type is: “Full HTML content with formatting and constraints for publishing” • Create Content Type(s) • Parent: Enterprise Wiki • Add site columns • Flexibility consideration: Do you want a CT that has a standard set of columns, then children for different user groups with custom columns?
The Process (cont.) • Create Page Layout • SPD 2010 > New Page Layout • Select New Content Type • URL (file) Name and Title • Modify Page Layout • Open Enterprise Wiki Layout Page > Copy ALL code > Paste over yours • Toolbox > Content Fields > Add Site Columns • Format Text / Add Headers • Anchor tags?
The Process (cont.) • Make Layout Available • Publish, Approve • Look and Feel > Page Layouts and Site Templates • Page Layouts > Your new layout > Add • Warning! Changes to page layouts change existing pages based on those layouts!
