  1. WELCOME LATHE & SHAPER By Saravanan P Saravanan P

  2. General Manufacturing • Metal Removing( Machining) • Metal Joining ( Welding, Brazing • and Soldering) • Metal Forming & Casting Saravanan P

  3. Machining Processes Saravanan P

  4. Turning, Drilling and Milling Saravanan P

  5. Turning, Drilling and Milling related Operations Saravanan P

  6. Lathe Lathe is a machine tool which is power operated and removes metal in the form of chip. Basic Motions Work-Piece – Rotation. Cutting Tool – Linear Movement. Saravanan P

  7. Mini Lathe Saravanan P

  8. LATHE Saravanan P

  9. Lathe Terminology Saravanan P

  10. Lathe – Safety Aspects Saravanan P

  11. Single Point Cutting Tool Saravanan P

  12. Tool Blanks Saravanan P

  13. Cutting Tool Angles (Single Point) Saravanan P

  14. Some Cutting Tools Saravanan P

  15. Cutting Parameters Saravanan P

  16. Cutting Speed(v) This is the speed at which work-piece travels against the tool’s Cutting edge. Formula to find out this is “ V=DN” Where V – Cutting Speed in “mm/min”. D - Diameter of the work-piece in “mm”. N - Rotation of the spindle in “rpm”. rpm – Rotations per minute. Saravanan P

  17. Feed(f) Feed is the distance traveled by the tool cutting edge into the work-piece during one rotation of the work-piece in the longitudinal direction( Parallel to the lathe axis). It is in “mm/revolution” Saravanan P

  18. Depth of Cut(d) • Depth of Cut is the amount of penetration of the tool tip • into the Work-piece in the transverse( Perpendicular to • the lathe axis) direction. • It is in “ mm” • “d” can be more for rough turning,( 2 to 4mm) • “d” should be very less for the finish turning • ( .25 to 1mm) Saravanan P

  19. Work Holding Devices • 3- Jaw Chuck • 4- Jaw Chuck • Magnetic Chuck • centers • Collets Chuck • Face Plate • Angle Plate • Dogs • Steady Rest • Follower Rest • Etc… Saravanan P

  20. 3-Jaw Chuck Saravanan P

  21. 4 - Jaw Chuck Saravanan P

  22. Centering Cylindrical Job in a 4- Jaw Chuck Saravanan P

  23. Jaw Position Saravanan P

  46. Continues… Saravanan P

  47. SHAPER Shaper is a Machine Tool which is power operated and removes the metal in the form of chip with the Cutting tool attached to a reciprocating ram. Basic Motions are Work piece – Stationary Cutting Tool – Reciprocating. Saravanan P

  48. Shaper 1 Saravanan P

  49. Shaper 2 Saravanan P

  50. Use of Quick Return Mechanism Quick Return Mechanism in shaper reduces the un- Productive time by speeding up the return stroke. Forward Stroke – Cutting takes place Return Stroke - Un-productive Saravanan P
