  1. Locating Points on a Coordinate Grid By: Mrs. Sims 3rd Grade Math

  2. The vertical axis is called the y-axis. Coordinate Gird Two perpendicular lines, or axes, labeled like number lines. The horizontal axis is called the x-axis. Where the x-axis and y-axis intersect is called the origin.

  3. Ordered pairs are written in parentheses (X,Y) These points are also called an ordered pair of numbers (3,4) The numbers on the coordinate grid are used to locate points

  4. Lets practice another one together! • Locate the ordered pair (2,5) on the coordinate grid. (2,5)

  5. Practice these ordered pairs on your own sheet of graph paper. • Locate the ordered pair (5,2) (5,2)

  6. Practice these ordered pairs on your own sheet of graph paper. • Locate the ordered pair (1,6) (1,6)

  7. Now lets work together to name the ordered pair that is given below. • The ordered pair is at point (5,4) • We should move 5 points right on the X-axis and 4 points up on the Y-axis

  8. Lets practice another one together! • We should move 3 points right on the X-axis and 6 points up on the Y-axis. • The ordered pair is at point (3,6)

  9. Practice naming the ordered pair on your own sheet of graph paper. • The ordered pair is at point (__,__)?

  10. Remember The Following!!! • The order of x and y in an ordered pair is important. • The X- coordinate ALWAYS comes • Then use a comma and list the Y-coordinate. • Example: (3,4) and (4,3) (3,4) (4,3)

  11. GREAT JOB!!!!!
