  1. Learn to graph ordered pairs on a coordinate grid.

  2. Vocabulary coordinate grid ordered pair

  3. Cities, towns, and neighborhoods are often laid out on a grid. This makes it easier to map and find locations. A coordinate grid is formed by horizontal and vertical lines and is used to locate points. Each point on a coordinate grid can be located by using an ordered pair of numbers, such as (4, 6). The starting point is (0, 0). • The first number tells how far to move horizontally from (0, 0). • The second number tells how far to move vertically.

  4. Additional Example 1A: Identifying Ordered Pairs Name the ordered pair for the location. Gym Start at (0, 0). Move right 2 units and then up 3 units. The gym is located at (2, 3).

  5. Additional Example 1B: Identifying Ordered Pairs Name the ordered pair for the location. Theater Start at (0, 0). Move right 3 units and then up 1 unit. The theater is located at (3, 1).

  6. Additional Example 1C: Identifying Ordered Pairs Name the ordered pair for the location. Park Start at (0, 0). Move right 4 units and then up 2 units. The park is located at (4, 2).

  7. Check It Out: Example 1A Name the ordered pair for each location. Diner Start at (0, 0). Move right 10 units and then up 5 units. The diner is located at (10, 5).

  8. Check It Out: Example 1B Name the ordered pair for each location. Pool Start at (0, 0). Move right 12 units and then up 1 units. The pool is located at (12, 1).

  9. Additional Example 2: Graphing Ordered Pairs Graph and label each point on a coordinate grid. A. L (3, 5)‏ Start at (0, 0). 6 Move right 3 units. L 5 Move up 5 units. 4 3 2 B. M (4, 0)‏ 1 M Start at (0, 0). 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 Move right 4 units. Move up 0 units.

  10. Check It Out: Example 2 Graph and label each point on a coordinate grid. A. T (2, 6)‏ Start at (0, 0). T 6 Move right 2 units. 5 Move up 6 units. 4 3 2 B. V (5, 0)‏ 1 V Start at (0, 0). 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 Move right 5 units. Move up 0 units.
