  1. Japan A Unique Cultural Experience 5/15/2008

  2. Location • Tokyo, Japan is shown in the picture to the left. Tokyo is the capitol and also a large place of interest to me on my trip.

  3. Location Breakdown • Capitol: Tokyo • Longitude and Latitude:138.00’ E, 36.00’ N • Continent: Asia • Nationalities/Ethnicities: Majority Japanese • Type of Government: 47 districts, each headed by a governor, ruled by a Prime Minister • Population:127,433,494 • Currency: Yen • Major Religion/Language: Shinto and Japanese/English • Major Landmarks: Mount Fuji

  4. Seasons • Japan has four distinct seasons. Spring months are March, April, and May. Summer months are June, July, and August. Autumn months are September, October, and November. Winter months are December, January, and February. Summer is hot and humid in general. During the winter, it snows a lot on the Sea of Japan side, and it is dry on the Pacific Ocean side.

  5. Trip Specifics • Staying seven nights, eight days • Hotel: Shinagawa Prince Hotel • Taking 2 people, fall of 2008 • They have fairly mild autumns, so I would pack jeans, T-shirts, and maybe a few light jackets or hoodies among the regular stuff. • Transportation would require the flight and hopefully just a railway pass that can get us around in Tokyo and the other islands.

  6. Hotel Costs • TheShinagawa Prince Hotel costs an average of $132.78 a night and for a seven night trip the cost comes to $929.46, but if I book on a certain site I get ten percent off if I stay five nights so the cost comes out to be $836.52. • It’s a really pretty hotel, and relatively cheap for Tokyo, but then I thought that I should book it with my flight…. YES!

  7. Costs • Booking the hotel and the flight together and staying in the same hotel for two people is $3359. YAY • Costs for the railway pass for 7 days of unlimited ride around the islands are $539.94 • So the total cost for these two items of travel is $3,898.94 or 408,710.68 Yen.

  8. More Costs?!? • Meals are pretty expensive but oh well • Breakfast: 500-1000 yen per day for average breakfast • Medium budget lunch costs about 700-1200 per day • High budget dinner costs 2000 yen or above per day • Entertainment costs are going to be around a Kabuki show for 2,500 yen per low class seat. And then I would just look around the city for architecture and culture. The ramen museum is free. And the Mitsuo Aida Museum is 800 yen per person.
