  13. ADMISSIONS OVERVIEW

  14. Admissions Criteria • Eligibility Index (G.P.A and ACT scores) • Activities, leadership, contribution to community, potential for success • Community Service • Letters of Recommendation • Admissions Essay

  15. ACT or SAT score GPA

  16. If a student has a 3.3 GPA and gets a 22 on the ACT then the Index Score is a 104.

  17. Reasons to Retake the ACT • To improve your score for admissions • To improve your score for scholarships • To qualify for NCAA athletic eligibility

ACT and SAT ACT – - October 27th (register by Sept 21st) - December 8th (register by Nov 2nd) SAT - October 6th (register by Sept 7th) - November 3rd (register by Oct 4th) - December 1st (register by Nov 1st) ACT costs $35 and the SAT costs $50 Some out of state schools and private schools may also require SAT subject tests (also called SAT II tests).

  21. Application Process \ • Online applications • Make sure your files are complete - recommendations - essay - fee - transcripts / ACT scores

  22. Online Applications \ • YOU must print out ANY forms your high school must complete - School Report Form - Teacher /Counselor Recommendation Form • Get the necessary teacher signature(s) on forms beforeyou turn them into the College & Career Center

Specialty Applications \ • Out of State / Private Schools - may have earlier deadlines, short answer and essays, extra letters of recommendation etc. • Selective Schools (CU Boulder, CSU Fort Collins) - always include essays / letters of recommendation unless your index score is 112 or higher • Common App Make sure you let your counselor know! There are several extra steps.

  24. Admissions Essay • Engage the reader, be original! • Make sure you write to the prompt • Be genuine! • Don’t repeat all your activities! Instead, choose a specific instance from your life that you can use to describe yourself and what you have learned. • Explain any weak points on your transcript • Proofread, proofread, proofread!

  25. Letters of Recommendation • Make sure you know which colleges require a letter. • Don’t ask for more letters than you need. Pick up a letter of recommendation form in the College & Career Center or complete our new letter of recommendation form in Naviance (About Me Tab) • Fill out the form for the teacher or counselor • Check back that the teacher submitted it through Naviance (you won’t be able to request transcripts until this is done) • Remember to give your teacher 3 weeks notice and say thank you!

  44. Financial Aid FAFSA = Free Application for Federal Student Aid * Never pay to submit your FAFSA! Everyone should apply for financial aid by filling out the FAFSA in January of senior year. Even if you think you may not qualify it is required for work study jobs! Financial Aid Night @ EHS on Nov. 28th
