Applying for FAFSA • Get organized!To simplify the application process, gather required documents and other information ahead of time. • Determine Your Dependency Status • FAFSA on the Web Worksheet • Search for School Codes • Students & Parents Apply For a PIN • Check Application Deadline Dates • Fill out the application!The FAFSA contains questions that ask about you, your financial information, your school plans, and more. • Fill Out Your FAFSA • Open Your Saved FAFSA or Correction Application • Sign Electronically With Your PIN • View your results online!   6. How do I apply for aid? • Complete the FAFSA and provide the required signatures. • Wait 3-5 days while we process your FAFSA and send you a Student Aid Report (SAR). • Check the SAR carefully. Your SAR will summarize the data you report on your FAFSA. • Keep a copy of your SAR. • View your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). If your FAFSA information is complete, an EFC will appear in the upper right corner of your SAR. Your EFC is based on the financial information you provide on the FAFSA. • Check with your school. Your school will use your EFC to award your financial aid.

How do I answer the tax questions if I (or my parents) don't file a tax return? • If you will not file a tax return: • Answer “Not going to file” to the “Have you completed a tax return?” question. • You will then be taken to the "Income earned from work" question. • Enter any income that you earned from a job that is listed as taxed on a W-2 form. • Answer only those income questions that apply to you from that point on. • If your parents will not file a tax return: • Answer “Not going to file” to the “Have your parents filed a tax return?” question. • You will then be taken to the “income earned from work” question. • Enter any income that your parents earned from a job that is listed as taxed on a W-2 form. • Answer only those income questions that apply to your parents from that point on.

  8. Can I save my application? • Yes. You can save your information at any point in the application. To save your application, click the SAVE button at the bottom of any FAFSA page. Do not use the Save commands that are built into the browser. • To restore your saved application, you must provide us with your: • Social Security Number, • Last name, • First name, • Date of birth, • The password you entered when you created the application. • Your saved application will be automatically deleted after 45 days or after the federal application/correction deadline date has passed. Select Application Deadlines on the home page for more information. • If you cannot remember your password, select forgot my password at the bottom of the Application Restore Login page. Enter the information required to verify your identity and select Next. Upon creating a new password and selecting Next, you will be taken to the last page you were on when you saved your application or correction form.

FAFSA Help • How do I get help? • For assistance with how to answer a specific FAFSA question: • Select the Need Help? link or • Select the Live Help option at the top of the page for one-on-one help from a customer service representative • For general help topics, select the Help option from the top of the page. • How do I contact customer service? • For assistance with a specific FAFSA question, general student financial aid information, or technical difficulties with FAFSA on the Web, refer to the Customer Service page. • You can also e-mail customer service for assistance at FederalStudentAidCustomerService@ed.gov, or by selecting the Contact Us option from the home page.

See handout – Documents Needed. • Goto: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/index.htm • Begin / Finish / Save your FAFSA. • When complete Print Confirmation Page. • Bring Confirmation Page to your advisory teacher for 100 pts towards Career Portfolio
