  2. Baseline • Does anyone know anything about self breast examinations? • SHARE PLEASE!!!

  3. Significance In SBE • It is a free (GRATIS) way to check yourself without having to go to a doctor. • It is an easy way to keep up with your health. • You become more aware of your body. • Possibility of preventing breast cancer from spreading on to a more serious stage.

  4. STEPS • 1) In the shower (skin is slippery) use the pad of index, middle, and ring finger of the left hand to press down in a circular up-down approach of the entire breast. Repeat with other side. Do the same under the armpits. Feel for any lumps, knots, or thickening.

  5. 2) Look at your breasts in the mirror by keeping arms at side.

  6. 3) Then raise arms over head to check for dimpling or an changes in the nipple. • 4) Push hands on hips and look for any asymmetry or changes when the pectoral muscles are flexed.

  7. 5) Lay down and feel same way in step 1 with a rolled towel under shoulder of examining breast with same arm.

  8. When to start • Teach your daughters, younger sisters, nieces, friends can start at age 20!! • Any method that you use should still include one step in the shower!! • Should do the exam during the week after your menstrual cycle!!
