  1. Gain from BIM, learn from data Michael Ørsted, Head of Department, Technical Knowledge and Documentation

  2. 2005-2007, Chairman, GeoSpatial SIG 2008-2013, Chariman, Datamanagement SIG (ProjectWise) 2012-2017, Member of the board, Bentleyuser.dk Annual Bentley conference in Denmark, with more than 250 participants 6-8 November in 2017, largest Bentley usergroup event outside US. 2014 Keynote speaker: Keith Bentley My Bentley experience

  3. The gateway of Northern Europe • Copenhagen Airport is the gateway between Scandinavia and the rest of the world • With more than 160 routes, we cover more destinations than any other Scandinavian airport • We have the largest catchment area in Scandinavia • Danes are proven to have an exceptionally high propensity to travel • Copenhagen Airport is among the fastest growing in Northern Europe • We are expanding by over 1m passengers each year

  4. 28 million passengers in 2016 • 250.000 operations (+2,8%) • 23,000 jobs in 700businesses Copenhagen Airport • CPH invests approx. DKK 1 billion annually in the airport • Government ownership 39.2 % • CAD 57.7 % (OTTP and MEIF)

  5. CPH Facts • Area 12,4 km2 = 2.000 football pitches • 3 km2 runways and taxiways = 70 football pitches or 190 kilometer highway with four lanes from CPH to Odense • 24 km fence around CPH • 1.000 security-cameras in door and outside • 40.000 km data cables. Enough to circle the earth • 650 takeoffs and landings daily • 14 snow ploughs in formation can clear 3,6 km runway in less than 15 minutes • 160.000 m2 terminals are cleaned daily = 25 football pitches • 80.000 passengers in the terminal on an average day (28 days i 2016 more than 100.000) 7

  6. CPH has some of the shortest transfer times and shortest walking distances among European airports. MCT is 40 minutes. CPH – A transfer favorite

  7. Expanding CPH – 40 mio. pax

  8. A better data foundation for new projects Earlier decisions Able to deliver a better product to the entrepreneurs Higher quality Gain from BIM - background BIM became a mean to, not ask for more but to follow up on what we have always asked for!

  9. Modeling the existing buildings – one project at a time Gainfrom BIM – Building model Information level: Demand from operation Demand from projects Metadata Origin: From 2D Measures Visually verified (2D) Logical

  10. Gain from BIM – The Installations

  11. Critical collisions measured during the last couple of month before handover Entrepreneurs bidding, with and without the BIM model Interview with all participants Gain from BIM – The Benefit 4,46% Total projectcost

  12. LessonsLearned: • Modulegrid • Hights • Coordinate system • Explain the model • Dilemma • 2 columns aremeasured 3 is not • The BIM model is wrong • How to measure • ”We have an old 2D drawing!” Gain from BIM – LessonsLearned

  13. Going towards 40 mill. Pax • Extending the BIM’ificed area • Cloudbased project teams • Internal projectleaders to use VDC (Virtual Design and Construction) • BIM to support decision making • Open standards • Quality assurance • Lead the way • “Are we on track?” Gain from BIM – The Strategy

  14. Questions Michael.oersted@cph.dk

  15. ProjectWise MicroStation Bentley MAP AECOsim ContextCapture Back to Bentley
