What is FMPAC? • FMPAC is an advisory council advocating for migrant student achievement and migrant parent involvement. FMPAC members are migrant parents, FDOE Migrant Education representatives, district Migrant Education representatives, and parent involvement technical assistance providers.
FMPAC Vision Statement • MPAC’s vision is to work together to help migrant children build a better future by achieving to high standards from Pre K through postsecondary education regardless of mobility; by developing relationships built on trust, respect, and encouragement; and by providing high quality educational programs, supportive services, family involvement , and community collaborations.
FMPAC Goals • Enhance awareness and utilize strategies to use at home on how to help children with FCAT skills • Become more proficient with NCLB Parent Involvement components • Become more involved with and promote parent involvement activities at the district and school levels
Strategies to Enhance Migrant Parent Involvement • Engage parents in their children’s education: • Educate parents about specific ways they can contribute to their children’s success in school • Promote participation by students and parents in transition programs or services • Provide staff development for school personnel regarding the migrant lifestyle, cultural heritage, and home environment
What happens at an FMPAC meeting? • Review of past meetings and how information was used at district Migrant Parent Advisory Council meetings • Update on activities to work toward FMPAC goals • Training and professional development activities • New business/areas that need attention • Food!
Why should I attend FMPAC meetings? • Networking opportunities with migrant parents and educators from across Florida • Activities and information to take back and use at district Migrant Parent Advisory Council meetings • Opportunities to provide input and feedback to form or enhance migrant policies and procedures • Training and professional development
