General Information • Board of Education Meetings • Open to public • Every first and third Wednesday of each month at Robinson Education Center in Manhattan, KS • Advertising and intense preparation necessary • Local TV channel airs meeting “live” • Agenda packets and information material on www.usd383.org(available Friday before meeting) • Minutes and agenda packets from older meeting available through Clerk of Board

Core Issues- Working Session • Renovation Manhattan High School- West Campus • “Facilities Master Plan” August 2008 • ~ 42.2 Million Dollars for West Campus and Bishop Stadium • Board approval June 11th 2008 • Gould Evans started working on project in June 2009 • 14 additional classrooms, multiple maintenance repairs and improvements

Core Issues- Working Session • Estimated timeline: • Design: September 2009-October 2010 • Presentation to the Public: January 26th 2010 • Board Approval of Plan: February 3rd 2010 • Permit Review: September-November 2010 • Bid Project: October-November 2010 • Award Contracts: November-December 2010 • Construction: February 2011-June 2013 Construction Manhattan High School-West finished: August 2013

Core Issues- Action Meeting • Snow make-up days • Ongoing issue in the district • Already four days missing this year • Usage of two inclement weather day as planned in the school calendar or • Adding 12 minutes to each school day • Budget cuts • Same problem in almost all school districts around the country • Ongoing and growing issue over the past years

Core Issues- Action Meeting • Tremendous cuts in spending for new school year • Consideration of reducing staff, rolling back benefits and limiting extracurricular activities • “Parents in Manhattan worry their kids aren’t going to get a complete education. 49 News Manhattan Bureau Reporter Lindsey Elliott took a look at USD 383’s budget proposal and spoke with parents who say cuts are happening in the wrong places”

  13. Room Arrangement and Setting • Easy for everyone to see the presenter and Board member • Presenter facing Board members • Name signs on table in front of each Board member • Usage of microphone for everybody • Two screens on the side wall of the room • Usage of laser pointer for presentation

Description Work Session • High School Renovation Plan • Gould Evans Architects explain schematic construction plans • Floor plans • Explanation of why architects designed the rooms a certain way • No action taken during this session – just informational • No questions from audience • January 26th public meeting about this work session • February 3rd Board decision on schematic plans
