  2. MAP Spring 2009 Grades 3 – 8 Assessment This PowerPoint presentation contains the following: • MAP guidelines • A brief history of MAP Assessments • The Test Design of the 2008-2009 MAP content areas • The Test Blueprints • Information about ancillary materials and reference sheets

  3. MAP Spring 2009 Grades 3 – 8 Assessment • The MAP 2009 includes annual grade-level tests in Communication Arts and Mathematics and the 5th and 8th grade tests in Science. • Student performance will be reported using 4 achievement levels: Advanced, Proficient, Basic and Below Basic.

  5. Characteristics of the grade-level test – MAP 2009 • The MAP Spring 2009 tests are aligned to the 1.0 Grade-Level Expectations (GLEs). • MAP tests include the following types of items: • Selected Response (SR) • Constructed Response (CR) • Performance Event (PE)/Writing Prompt (WP)

Design of the grade-level MAP Tests • The following slides contain the test design, blueprints and manipulatives for each content area – Mathematics, Communication Arts, and Science. • Timing guidelines include time for teachers to read directions and give students an optional short break between test parts. However, timing guidelines do not include time to complete the SIS if the pre-code label is incorrect or missing.

Ancillary Materials for the Mathematics grade-level MAP tests • Reference Sheets • Grade 8 will be provided with a separate reference sheet that contains formulas and conversions. • Grades 3 - 7 are provided all necessary formulas and conversions with the items. No separate reference sheet will be provided.

Mathematics Ancillary Materials • Calculators • Grades 3 through 5 are not allowed to use calculators during any session of the test. • Grades 6 through 8 may not use calculators during Session 2, Parts 1 and 3. If schools choose to use calculators on the other parts of the test, students should be given advanced notice and given access to a calculator.

  16. Mathematics Ancillary Materials ManipulativesStudents are given a standard set of manipulatives for use during the test. No other classroom manipulative materials are allowed.

  27. Ancillary Materials for Communication Arts grade-level MAP Tests • Grade 3 – Small, plain, blank bookmarks can be used for all sessions. A standard dictionary and extra paper for writing first drafts may be used only during Session 2. • Grade 7– Small, plain, blank bookmarks can be used for all sessions.A standard dictionary, thesaurus, grammar handbook, and extra paper for first drafts may be used only during Session 2. • Grades 4, 5, 6, 8 – No tools, except small, plain, blank bookmarks,may be used for any session of the test.

  34. Ancillary Materials forScience grade-level MAP Tests • Grades 5 and 8 are provided all necessary formulas and conversions with the item. • Calculators • Calculators may not be used during the Science Assessments for either grade 5 or 8.

  35. Pencils and Erasers Remember, non-mechanical No. 2 pencils must be used for all assessments. Answers written in ink cannot be scored. Any stray lines or smudges from incomplete erasures may impact the scoring of items. Be aware that some non-mechanical No. 2 pencils have erasers that smudge, tear, and damage test books.
