  4. RBIs: Scientifically Based Research • In NCLB scientifically based research is defined as research that • (1) Employs systematic, empirical methods that draw on observation or experiment • (2) Involves rigorous data analyses that are adequate to test the stated hypothesis and justify the general conclusion • (3) Relies on measurement or observational methods that provide valid data across evaluators and observers, and across multiple measurements and observations • (4) Is accepted by a peer-reviewedor a panel of dependent experts through comparatively rigorous, objective and scientific review. http://schoolcounseling.ncdpi.wikispaces.net/file/view/Handout+2+-+Evidence-Based+Education(1).pdf

  5. Evidence-Based Practice • A program or instructional practice that is evidence based has gone through rigorous research and has demonstrated a record of success; there is reliable, trustworthy and valid evidence to suggest the program is effective; evidence supporting the practice should be scientifically based. • Evidence-based practices or model programs that have shown the greatest levels of effectiveness are those that have established generalizability (replicated in different settings and with different populations over time) through research studies http://schoolcounseling.ncdpi.wikispaces.net/file/view/Handout+2+-+Evidence-Based+Education(1).pdf http://www2.monroecounty.gov/files/youth/Linking%20Research%20to%20Practice%20in%20Youth%20Development%20up-date%205-11-07.pdf
