What is Military Saves? • Military Saves is part of the Department of Defense’s Financial Readiness Campaign and has been a partner with DoD since 2003. • Military Saves is a research-based campaign using the principles of behavioral economics and social marketing to change behavior. • Military Saves seeks to motivate, support, and encourage military families to save money, reduce debt, and build wealth. • Military Saves is a part of America Saves, the larger nation-wide campaign for all Americans. • Military Saves encourages all servicemembers, their families, and civilian employees to take the Military Saves pledge. • Military Saves promotes access to a range of financial readiness resources that can help them with their debt reduction and savings goals.

What is Military Saves Week? • Military Saves Week 2017 is February 27th – March 4th . • This is an annual opportunity for installations and organizations to promote good saving behavior and a chance for servicemembers and their families to assess their own saving status. • Military installations worldwide are planning events to encourage servicemembers and their families to take the Military Saves pledge at www.militarysaves.org. • Theme for Military Saves Week:Set a Goal. Make a Plan. Save Automatically.

  5. #MSW2017 Endorsements Each year a Memo from the Office of the Secretary of Defense is issued supporting Military Saves Week . The 2017 Military Saves Campaign is endorsed by senior enlisted military leadership.

  6. #MSW2017 Goals • 50,000 Military Savers take the pledge • Army 20,000 Pledges • Navy 10,000 Pledges • Marines 5,000 Pledges • Air Force 15,000 Pledges • Coast Guard, National Guard, and Reserves 1,000 Pledges • Campaign Coordinators at every U.S. military installation CONUS and OCONUS • Unit Representatives; Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) Model

Designation of Excellence – Military Banks • Military Saves Week 2016 (last year) • 15 Banks recognized through National and Individually local press release, increased visibility on AmericaSaves.org, MilitarySaves.org, AmericaSavesWeek.org, and Savings Excellence seal for your website. • Military Banks actively participating should be able to supply the requested data/information for all 18 fields on the application form. • Click here to view the PDF application. • The online application will open on March 6, 2017 and will close on April 3, 2017.

Bottom Line • Your Military Bank will benefit from participating in Military Saves Week 2017, February 27th – March 4th • Savings through direct deposit and embedded pledge form on your website will increase customer accounts • Participating in Military Saves Week supports the marketing of your products, accounts, and services • Register TODAY as a participating organization at MilitarySaves.org

How to Participate: Act #MSW2017 Act: • Sign up your installation to participate in #MSW2017. • Encourage servicemembers, their families and DoD civilians to take the Military Saves Pledge • Embed pledge form on your institution website • Collaborate with installation leadership, BLOs , PFMs, and organizations to increase participation

  12. How to Participate: Communicate #MSW2017 Communicate: • Tell servicemembers, their families and DoD employees about Military Saves Week. Encourage them to take the pledge. • Use MSW Digital Resource Kit and other marketing materials from website to tweet and Facebook about #MSW2017. • Communicate your participation in MSW to individuals and partners

  13. How to Participate: Promote #MSW2017 Event Promotion: • Host promotional events, financial seminars, workshops • Reach out to the local media through press releases. Tell them about your events/activities! Please also tell Military Saves. • Use Military Saves materials to encourage the message of savings at these events
