  1. Not One More Expanding Safe Teen Driving Initiatives to include a Driving Simulator Program

The Mission of “Not One More” To develop a comprehensive educational program that promotes safe teen driving, such thatNot One Morehigh school student is seriously injured or killed as a driver or passenger in a vehicle. The “Not One More” program was originally created by the Times Herald-Record to serve our community.

  3. Car crashes are the #1 killer of teens Over 85 people between the ages of 16 and 20 have been killed in car crashes in the past 11 years in the Hudson Valley In 2006, there were 7,653 traffic accidents in Orange County. Of those, 2,118 involved people between 16-20. Teen Crash Statistics

The “Not One More” Program • Program began in June 2006 by the Times Herald-Record (THR) in response to a number of fatal crashes in the Hudson Valley • Media campaign to heighten awareness • “Not One More” Forums in High Schools • To educate, persuade and motivate teen drivers and their parents to drive safely

  5. “Not One More” Committee • Community organization of concerned citizens to promote safe teen driving. • Diverse group includes: Sullivan & Orange County Government, Sullivan BOCES, Orange-Ulster BOCES, Orange County United Way, Times Herald-Record, New York State Police, local PTA/PTOs, school resource officers and other concerned citizens.

  6. “Not One More” Orange County Program There are currently 3 driver simulators being used in Orange County. Participating districts include: • Port Jervis • Warwick Valley • Monroe-Woodbury • Middletown

  9. “Not One More” Sullivan Activities 2009-10 • Establish a “Not One More” Committee for Sullivan County • Identify a Shared Driving Simulator Program • Establish a cooperative venture between Sullivan County Government and Sullivan County United Way with support from Sullivan BOCES • Establish a funding mechanism to collect contributions • Purchase equipment • Discussed ways to encourage students to drive more safely • Develop curriculum for driver awareness programs in high schools

  11. Why Driving Simulators? • Lesson-based instruction that requires students to demonstrate skills and knowledge of safe driving • Simulators put drivers in dangerous situations safely • Individual records for each “driver” • Portable set-up that can be shared by schools

  12. What We Ask of Community Members? • Support safe driving in your family by doing these three things: - Slow down - Reduce distractions - Always use seatbelts
