  2. To Graduate you Must: • Have 210 Credits • Pass the Core Curriculum • Complete a Service Learning Project • Complete 20 hours of community service (for graduation participation only)

  3. CREDIT RECOVERY • If you still need to make up credits/classes • Stoney Point-ELTAE Program • Adult School • II Lab • Pierce College Classes DO NOT WAIT ANY LONGER! TIME IS RUNNING OUT! SEE YOUR COUNSELOR ASAP!

  4. STOLE REQUIREMENTS • To receive a stole to wear at graduation, you must complete additional community service hours which varies by academy. • GAME - 200 Hours • HUMANITAS- 40 Hours (approved by Peres) • MEDICAL- 250 Hours • Check with your academy lead teacher or counselor for additional requirements.

  5. Grad Check Letters • Fall grad check letters will be mailed home at the beginning of October • Total credits earned up to this point • Course requirements still needed before graduation • Outside courses needed • Met/needs to complete SLP • See your counselor with any questions

  6. A-G Requirements • A. Social Studies – 2 years • B. English – 4 years • C. Math – 3 years* (at least up through Algebra 2) • D. Lab Science– 2 years* • E. Foreign Language – 2 years* • F. Visual/Performing Art – 1 year • G. 1 additional year of Social Studies, Math, Science or Foreign Language • *additional years recommended for UC • 4-year colleges require a minimum grade of “C” or higher!

COLLEGE APPLICATIONS: • Set up separate email ONLY for college applications and financial aid • Do not use school email • Set up usernames and passwords that you will remember • Do not share your email, password, username with anyone! • Keep information in a safe place as I do not have access to it • Check your emails/portals often…even junk and spam folders! • Meet ALL deadlines for sending transcripts, SAT/ACT scores, etc…Colleges will not care the reason why you missed a deadline

UC Applications • UC Applications open now! www.universityofcalifornia.edu • Submit November 1-30th • Minimum GPA of 3.0 to qualify • GPA is taken from summer after 9th grade to summer before 12th grade (10th/11th grade) • Report ALL classes and grades that count towards A-G requirements • Ex: If you failed a class but retook for a higher grade, you need to report both classes and grades • Need SAT with essay • Subject tests not required but can be helpful for a major • Personal insight questions (answer 4/8) • DO NOT cut/paste from your common app essay! • All questions are weighted the same, 350 word max

UC cont… • Community and school service, extra curricular activities, ELC • Prioritize awards/activities and give as much context as possible • Send transcripts to schools when requested or by deadline (A9) • Check your email/portals • If applying for an alternate major, pick one in a different discipline • Colleges can request validation of anything you put on your application • If you want to appeal an decision, it needs to be new and relevant information • Last additional comment box is for anything you were not able to discuss on your application. Do not use it to extend your PIQ’s. • Fee waiver on application AND you will be sent 4 fee waiver codes through your College Board account IF you took an SAT with a fee waiver (should be sent in October)

CAL STATE Applications • Minimum GPA of 2.0 • Applications opens October 1stwww2.calstate.eduDue November 30th • SAT reading/math (no essay) • Sliding scale for GPA/assessment tests • Can qualify with 3.0 GPA (still need SAT/ACT on file) • Self report classes/grades • Only need to report highest grade in class taken • Ex: If you Failed Algebra 2B but retook it and received a “C”, you only need to report the “C” • Send official transcripts when they request them or by deadline • Fee waiver is directly on application

LA COLLEGE PROMISE • Program for Los Angeles Community Colleges • Waived tuition for the first year of community college • Priority enrollment • Additional support • Need to COMPLETE the FAFSA/Dream Act and meet other deadlines/requirements • Need to take Math/English assessments • East LA, LA City, LA Harbor, LA Mission, LA Southwest, LA Trade Tech, LA Valley, Pierce, West LA • www.lacollegepromise.org

Additional info for College Applications • Private college use Common App www.commonapp.org • Self report grades/classes • Need counselor email • Turn in Brag Sheet to counselor for letter of recommendation (give them at least 2 weeks) • Counselor will upload transcript • Apply for fee waiver online and counselor will approve if on Free/Reduced lunch • Out of state colleges • Check websites for specific requirements, deadlines, and fee waivers • Western Undergraduate Exchange www.wiche.edu Find which out of state colleges partner with California

Early Decision vs. Early Action • Early Decision plans are binding • You agree to attend the college if it accepts you and offers an adequate financial aid package. • You apply to only one college for Early Decision • You can apply to other colleges for regular admission • Early Action plans are nonbinding • Should hear about acceptance by early January but have the right to wait until May 1 before responding • Gives you time to compare colleges and financial aid packages before making a decision

  14. SAT Exam Next test dates: October 6, November 3, December 1 Register for test at www.collegeboard.org Fee waivers available! Can use fee waiver through the late registration Even if you are planning to go to community college, if you are on the transfer program, you still need an assessment test on file! ACT Exam • Next test dates: September , October , December • Register at www.actstudent.org • Fee waivers available!

Fee Waivers • Fee waivers can be given if you are approved for Free/Reduced lunch • Apply every year at www.myschoolapps.com • Once approved in system, students can receive: • 2 FREE SAT exams • 2 FREE SAT Subject test • 2 FREE ACT exams • Reduced fees on AP exams • NCAA Fee waiver • College application fee waivers (sent to College Board account and/or approved by counselor)

EOP- Educational Opportunities Program • If you are a first generation college student, are considered low income and/or on the F/R lunch program, you should apply for the EOP program at each college • On the applications, when it asks you if you would like to apply for the EOP program, click “yes” • You will need to fill out an additional supplemental application for EACH college • You will need a teacher and counselor to fill out application as well • Send your request electronically! • If accepted, it will provide you with additional resources such as counseling, class registration, and financial aid

  17. CSU Early Assessment Program (EAP) Performance on this exam you took in 11th grade determines your college readiness for English and math. Check your eligibility at www.csusuccess.org and learn what path you need to take You will have one of the following reports: “Ready” “Conditionally Ready” “Not Ready” Other ways to satisfy EAP: SAT/ACT/AP scores NO ELM/EPT placement exams!! Everyone can enter college level English/Math and receive additional support.

DEADLINES: Send SAT/ACT scores to schools by deadline through the College Board or ACT websites If sending to UC’s, you ONLY NEED TO SEND TO 1 UNIVERSITY and they will share out For Cal Sates, send to CSU system wideinstitution code (3594) and theywillshare out Submit EOP application and additional requirements to colleges by deadline Check EAP status at www.csusuccess.org and register for tests if needed Take placement exams and complete online orientations for Community College Keep up with Senior Year grades…some colleges will not accept a “D” or “Fail” your senior year…regardless of the class!

  19. Financial Aid • Opens October 1st and Due March 2, 2019 • FAFSA – Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Apply at www.fafsa.ed.gov • Parents will use 2016 taxes for application • California Dream Act –Students without lawful immigration status, who qualify for an AB540 nonresident tuition exemption. Opens January 1, 2016. Apply at www.CalDreamAct.org • Questionnaire at the beginning of application to determine eligibility DO NOT FILL OUT BOTH APPLICATIONS!

Cal Grants = FREE MONEY • Can be used for Community College, CSU, UC, & Private • Cal Grant A • 3.0+ GPA plus financial need • About $5,500/year for Cal States • About $12,000/year for UC • About $9000 for private • Cal Grant B • Minimum GPA of 2.0 and extreme financial need • Receive only $1600 the first year but receive Cal Grant A ($5500) plus $1600 stipend years 2-4 • Cal Grant C • Short term vocational grant, amount varies • Community College • About $1600 (using part of the Cal Grant that you would use to transfer to a 4-year college)

Additional Financial Aid • CSS Profile-Opens in October • Register at www.collegeboard.org (search for CSS Profile) • Online application that collects information used by certain colleges and scholarship programs to award institutional aid funds. • Check your colleges’/programs’ information to determine whether they require the PROFILE.

Additional Award Opportunities • *Blue & Gold at UC • *Middle Class Scholarship for Cal State/UC • *Pell Grant • *Loan • Check your college for specific scholarships/grants available • Chatsworth Community Scholarship becomes available in Spring Semester in the College Office • Join PTSA and Booster Club to be eligible for their awards! • Check College Office for updated scholarship list *You qualify for these just by filling out the FAFSA/Dream Act!

NCAANational Collegiate Athletic Association • Students wanting to play athletics as a freshman at a 4-year college/university need to meet certain requirements • Graduate from HS • 16 core courses for Division 1 & 2 • Minimum GPA required on NCAA courses and SAT • All courses need to be on HS transcript • www.ncaaclearinghouse.org • Register to become a college-bound student athlete and learn about eligibility
