Texas Education AgencyInstructional Materials and Educational Technology Division Overview of Improvements Planned for the Virtual Depository (Surplus System) in 2011 Limit the number of times an order can be rejected by districts before the order is removed from the surplus system and sent directly to a publisher-depository Limit the number of days an order can remain in the surplus system before it is removed and sent directly to a publisher-depository Reduce the fragmentation of orders sent to textbook depositories (This will reduce the number of times a publisher has to send textbooks of the same title to a district.)

  2. Overview of Improvements Planned for the Virtual Depository (Surplus System) in 2011 Create online inquiries that districts may use to find surplus textbooks by region, Multiple List Code (MLC), International Standard Book Number (ISBN) or district  Enable two districts to physically transfer materials from one to the other using district transportation (Districts would be able to record transaction in EMAT.)

  3. Overview of Improvements Planned for the Virtual Depository (Surplus System) in 2011 • Enable districts to view more detailed information on inbound and outbound surplus shipments • Enable districts to correct errors in shipment and surplus receipt transactions

  4. Additional Measures by Districts that Would Further Enhance Smooth Operation of the Surplus System Aggressive reporting of worn-out textbooks Statewide use of Texas Administrative Code (TAC) Section 66.1201, Printed Textbooks, to determine the acceptable condition of textbooks
