  2. Dream Houses Te Tuhi Pre-visit lesson 3 Gregor Kregar The Artist and 5 of his artworks Pre visit lesson 4

  3. Gregor Kregar and 5 of his artworks. Gregor Kregar was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia and lives in Auckland, New Zealand and Berlin, Germany. Gregor is an artist known around the world for his unique geometric sculptural artworks. We will see 5 artworks which are made up of geometric and other recognisable shapes

  4. Brick Bay Polyhedron Brick Bay Sculpture Park Matakana, NZ Gregor is well known for his geometric shaped scultpure. This sculpture is made from joining 220 equilateral triangles. It is made from mirror-polished steel which gives us the impression that this sculpture could be made from the sky and surrounding landscape.

  5. Cardboard Construction Art Omi Ghent, New York, USA This sculpture is made entirely from recycled cardboard boxes. Gregor’s sculpture continued to grow through the walls and up into the ceiling. It grew and grew until there was no more ceiling space or when the cardboard would give way and fall down.

  6. Sky Housing Project Red Badge of Courage NJ, USA Gregor’s sculptures are made from different geometric shapes joined together and hung from the ceiling and walls. The outside of each sculpture is covered with a selection of images from fashion magazines, restaurant menus, calendars and other materials. Gregor’s sculptures make us think about architecture (buildings and houses) that could float in the sky.

  7. One More Round Sculpture On the Gulf 2005 Waiheke, NZ This sculpture is made from 180 recycled glass triangles held together by a steel frame. Inside this sculpture is interactive light and sound. When you enter the sculpture the sound of explosions and earthquakes start. The sound and light are powered by a solar panel installed at the top of the work.

  8. Steel Life Planet Sarjeant Gallery Wanganui, NZ Gregor made this artwork from glass and steel and shaped it to reflect the shape of planet earth. This artwork is interactive with the globe rotating when a person nears it.

  9. Gregor Kregar Now that you know a little a bit about the Artist Gregor Kregar, discuss as a class what you think about his art and the shapes he uses. Starting with… Which artwork did you like the most? Create a drawing that looks like your favourite Gregor artwork. If you had to make a sculpture which shapes would you use? - triangles, pentagons, rectangles or squares. Create a drawing of your sculpture showing the shapes you would use. Share your favourite artwork, drawings and chosen shapes with the rest of the class and see what everyone else has created!

  10. We hope you enjoyed learning about geometry, how shapes inspire buildings and how artist Gregor Kregar uses geometric shapes in his art work. During our visit we will use this knowledge to explore the art we see and to inspire the art we make.
