  1. Segmentation and Deformable Registration David McNamara Working Group 17 (3D) February 20, 2007

  2. Segmentation • DICOM Standard 2006 • Binary (1-bit) or Fractional (8-bit) • Fractional Types: Occupancy and Probabilistic

  3. Segmentation • Enhanced Multi-frame Image • Many segments per object • Each frame contains data for one segment (no bit-packing)

  4. Segmentation • If Frame of Reference present, sampling does not need to be same as referenced images • Otherwise, there must be a 1-to-1 mapping from segment to referenced images

  5. Segmentation • Segmented Property Category CID 7150Segmentation Property Categories Type: Extensible Version: 20060822

  6. Segmentation • Segmented Property Type CID 7151Segmentation Property Types Type: Extensible Version: 20060822

  7. Segmentation • Segmented Property Type CID 7154Abdominal Organ Segmentation Types Type: Extensible Version: 20060822

  8. Segmentation

  9. Deformable Spatial Registration • Spatial Registration standard in 2004 • Allowed only rigid transformations • Deformable Registration builds on Spatial Registration IOD • DICOM Standard 2006

  10. Deformable Spatial Registration • Spatially related to source data • Uses Vector Grid to describe deformation [DXijkDYijkDZijk] • Allows for rigid transformation to be performed before or after deformation

  11. Deformable Spatial Registration • Registered RCS (Reference Coordinate System): The coordinate system defined by the Deformable Registration instance • Source RCS: The coordinate system of the referenced data being deformed • Specifies how to sample data from one or more Source RCSs into Registered RCS

  12. Deformable Spatial Registration • Important: The sense of the transformation matrices is opposite from the Spatial Registration IOD

  13. Deformable Spatial Registration • Specifies deformation at center of each voxel • [NaN,NaN,NaN] means deformation not defined at that location

  14. Future Work • Polygonal Segmentation • Joint meeting with WG 24 (Surgery) • Wednesday, 3-5 pm, Royal Palm VI • Collaborate with WG 11 (Presentation) • N-D Presentation State
