  1. Term 2 Words

  2. Atomic Number Number of protons in the nucleus of an atom of a given element.

  3. Atom The basic unit of a chemical element; made of a nucleus and electron cloud.

  4. Atomic Mass The mass of an atom of a chemical element expressed in atomic mass units. Most of this is located in the nucleus, mass of protons plus neutrons.

  5. Chemical Change Change in which the composition of a substance changes.

  6. Law of Conservation of Mass States that mass is neither created nor destroyed-and as a result the mass of the substances before a physical or chemical change is equal to the mass of the substance present after the change.

  7. Density Mass of an object divided by its volume.

  8. Element Substance that cannot be broken down into simpler substances.

  9. Proton Positively-charged particle in the nucleus of an atom.

  10. Neutron Electrically-neutral particle that has the same mass as a proton and is found in an atom’s nucleus.

  11. Electron Negatively-charged particle that exists in an electron cloud formation around an atom’s nucleus.

  12. Particle Motion Varies for states of matter and is affected by temperature.

  13. Mass Amount of matter in an object, which is measured in kilograms.

  14. Weight The size of the gravitational force exerted on an object.
