  1. Term: 2 Week: 3 2010 Maths Currently we are studying Geometry. Talk to your child about shapes. Look at the number of sides shapes have. What shapes can you see out and about and at home? Kia Ora, Talofa Lava, Fakalofa Lahi Atu, Malo e lelei, Kia Orana, Namaste, Ni sa bula vinaka, Nee ho mar, Ni hao and a special welcome to all new families who have joined our school recently. Last week the outgoing board met the new members of our school Board of Trustees. We are pleased to welcome two new members- Mr Aloinuu Mua and Mr Henry Jenkins -and to welcome back Mrs Sositine Lutui, Mrs Victoria Ieremia and Ms Roseanne Hay. Mrs Maxine Curtis continues as the staff representative. We farewelled Mrs Gillian Bagnall, Ms Kerry Boielle and Mrs Eseta Funganitao and want to thank them for all their work on the board over the last three years. Walk to School Breakfast We had a great ‘Walk to School’ breakfast for Hay Park children and their families last week with many winning spot prizes and having a lot of fun with Maxx the Pukeko. We encourage all of our students to walk to and from school every day. For those children who live out of the area and travel to school by car we encourage parents to drop children off so that they can walk some of the distance to school every day- that way they keep active which is good for their learning. A big thanks to Auckland City Council Travelwise team for sponsoring the breakfast. School uniform Well done to all the parents who help their child wear the correct uniform. This is a credit to you. For those who need more uniform items, probably school jumpers with winter fast approaching, remember that you can buy Hay Park School uniform items at Waikowhai Intermediate on Monday and Thursday mornings 8.15 – 9am. Should you need a WINZ quote, come and see Jo in our front office to organise one. Adidas Rain Jackets Please remind children to start packing Adidas rain jackets into their school bag every day in preparation for rainy weather. Parents of new students, your child will bring a Kids Can Adidas rain jacket home in the near future. These are a wonderful gift from Kids Can Charitable Trust and we ask that you encourage your child to take good care of them. • URGENT REMINDER: All permission slips and payment for the Pasifika Experience due. Rm 1, 2 , 3 and 4 by tomorrow morning and Rm 6, 9 and 10 by this Thursday. • Reports home on Thursday 13May. • Parent teacher child conferences Thursday 6 May and Friday 7 May. Please note school closes early at 12.30pm on these days. At Hay Park we show empathy and respect. When we see someone is upset we try to understand how they feel. We can say kind words and help them to feel happy again. Parents teach their children a lot by talking and explaining. Tell them about your family, places you have lived, about rules of games, about family treasures. What a lot of change at Hay Park School. Every day it changes. I wish Room 10 was peaceful and quiet but never mind! Change doesn’t always happen every year and its very exciting! Leata T, Room 10 Our topic is Pass it On! And its all about how people learn the skills and traditions of their cultures. We warmly invite you to visit our classes to share your culture with us. Margaret Aikman Principal
