  2. What is a locus? • Locus – the set of points that satisfy the same condition • Example: • Draw point A on your paper. Draw and describe the locus of all points 3 inches from A.

  3. Steps • Step One: Draw the original point/line/etc. • Step Two: Draw several points that fill requirement(s) for locus. • Step Three: Find the pattern and describe the shape. • Common shapes:

  4. Example • What is the locus of points in the coordinate plane that are equidistant from A (0,0) and B (6,0) and 5 units from A?

  5. Example 2 • What is the locus which is: 3 units from (-3, 3), 5 units from (2, -1), 2 units from (2, 3.5)‏ • Locus (epicenter) is point at (0, 3.5)‏
