Introduction to DSS • What is the Mission of DSS? • “DSS supports national security and the warfighter, secures the nation's technological base, and oversees the protection of US and foreign classified information in the hands of industry. • We accomplish this mission by: Clearing industrial facilities, personnel and associated information systems; collecting, analyzing and providing threat information to industry and government partners; managing foreign ownership control and influence in cleared industry, providing advice and oversight to industry; delivering security education and training; and, providing information technology services that support the industrial security mission of DoD and its partner agencies.”

JPAS History • JPAS was created by the U.S. Air Force in 2001. • The system has approximately 53,000 active users and averages over 2,000 concurrent users at peak hours of operation. • It became the “system of record” for Industry on October 1, 2004. • There are currently over 28,000 Industry users of JPAS. • The Defense Security Service is the executive agent within the DoD for JPAS.

What Will DSS Want to Know During an Inspection? • How many of your employees have access to collateral information? • NISPOM 2-200 (b), 2-200 (c), 2-200 (d) • Confidential • Secret • Top Secret • Caveats • Is everyone in your PSM-Net within the required re-investigation timeline? • NISPOM 2-201 (d) • Confidential = every 15 years • Secret = every 10 years • Top Secret = every 5 years

Analyzing Your JPAS information • Separation Report • Personnel Analysis
Separation Report • Why is it important? • Clears the association with your CAGE. • Begins the two year countdown for archiving the virtual personnel file (Person Summary Page). • If one category in an individuals record has not been separated properly, then the record will never archive.
Analyzing Your JPAS information • What will this show you? • Which employees should be in process for a PR. • Which employees require an NdA input into JPAS. • Which employees have incorrect / missing PID data. • Which employees have not been properly indoctrinated. • The list goes on!
