Transforming Fieldwork and Classroom Experience with iAnnotate and iPad Apps
This guide explores the use of iAnnotate on the iPad to enhance research and fieldwork efficiency. Initially employed to avoid printing, iAnnotate has become essential for highlighting articles, taking notes, and managing documents. With over 739 PDFs, it streamlines study materials for classes, allowing students to download notes and read professor annotations. The integration of audio recording apps like AudioNote aids in synchronized note-taking and transcription. The iPad also serves various teaching applications, allowing for real-time resource access and seamless updates during discussions.

iPad saves paper w/ iAnnotateand some fieldwork app ideas Evelyn Ho Sept 21, 2010
iAnnotate • Originally used as a way to avoid printing pdf copies of journal articles • Currently have 739 pdfs • I primarily use for: • Highlighting journal articles • Not bringing paper to class • Avoiding large docs like conference programs • Take some notes, but also still use Endnote
iAnnotate for professors + easy wireless file transfer + keeps a clean copy and saves an annotated file + easy to use - nice tagging function + great for research reading/annotating • have to be sure to use text recognized pdfs • annotations emailed to others are clunky • still kills your eyes to read • don’t like reading on MUNI with my iPad
iAnnotate for students • This would be great! Students could download notes (if professors do that) and take notes on the slides • No need to print all class articles and they’d always have them in class • Could read professor’s annotations of drafts beyond Word’s track and ACCEPT ALL changes
Other uses of the iPad especially for fieldwork • AudioNote ($4.99) • Audio records while you type for synced note-taking - could ease transcription time • Audio recording is primarily for note-backup (could be good for students, clunky for fieldwork. It stops every page you flip in typing) • AudioMemos (free) & iTalk (lite is free) - but none of these will be as discreet as an iPhone or other small recording device • However, audio quality is very good!
Other Teaching applications • Teaching? iPad/iTunes library - could be good for storing audio/video files… but all of this could be embedded in PPT too • Have used the iPad for impromptu looking up stats, history, related videos, websites, etc. Nice for supplemental resources in real-time • Allows you to teach without prepping everything and allowing the flow of conversation to take you somewhere • Make quick changes to BB as they are relevant (reminders)
