  1. And Away We Go!! My First Official Post After 15 years that started with the Remingtons over at Skinny Moose, I am finally on my own. I wanted to give shout-outs to Kevin Paulson over at https://huntinglife.com/ and the web team over at https://www.webb4biz.com/ for getting me going with my brand new site! I have my own domain, and this site is all me! Over the next few weeks, I will be moving some content over from the old site, which is still a part of the CarbonMedia family. y niche will still be interviews, product reviews, company profiles and a few personal adventures mixed in for fun. If you know someone that might benefit from some media exposure, please send them my way. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the new look and please share!!

  2. Time to ditch plastic water bottles? So, I’m guilty, even though I know better. I am not a “hard core” environmentalist per se, but sustainability is important to me, because usually – it makes sense. I’m even working on a “Sustainability Credential”, associated with my career field. But plastic water bottles are soooooo ingrained into our everyday life. Full disclosure I rarely use them. But my wife and daughter do. A lot. Like many families, we have numerous cases of bottled water set aside, “just in case” but they also use them daily. That being said, I grab one now and then, and especially use them on hunting and fishing trips. Other forms of reusable water bottles are fine for lots of things but not really practical for a hunting expedition or day on the water. As I was reading this month’s issue of theFlorida Sportsmanmagazine, I read with interest the Publisher Blair Wickstrom’s column on water bottles. I learned some things and overall, couldn’t help but agree. Tap water is highly regulated by municipalities so when we choose bottled water in most American cities and towns

  3. Saying Goodbye to Cat-Dog I remember the day I picked her up. A dear friend and colleague had approached me about adopting her brother’s dog. A purebred German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) named Raven. Her brother’s life circumstances had changed and he needed to get Raven into a good home. I agreed. Raven jumped in the truck and took her place on the front seat. On the ride home, she gazed out the window. Not excited, not nervous. Just… matter-of-fact. Raven was weird. In a good way, but she had the oddest personality of any of the dogs I’ve owned over the years. She was playful, but on her terms. She was affectionate, but on her terms. Often, her demeanor was best described as “aloof”. Frequently, she perched on the back of the couch – all in all, Raven acted more like a cat than a dog.

  4. Striper Express at Lake Texoma A Huge Hit! I’ve been chatting with Bill Carey over at Striper Express for well over a year, and every time I talked to him, I wanted to visit even more. Finally, I had an opportunity. Bill had generously donated a discounted “Big Fish Special” to the Arizona Mule Deer Organization for us to auction off at one of our fundraising banquets. Friend Robert Gomez and I won the small bidding war and the trip was now going to become a reality! After talking with Bill, he said May was the premiere month at Lake Texoma so we locked in a date and enlisted friends Mike and Kris to come along on the four-fisherman package. the Big Fish Special is for four anglers – two days of fishing and lodging included. We provide our own food, and the correct Texas fishing license for Lake Texoma; the rest is included. Robert and I landed in Dallas after lunch, grabbed our rental and picked up Mike and Kris who had landed at the other airport (we all used air miles on our flights. Robert and I used American, Kris and Mike used Southwest).
