Potential future research of water-energy-environment nexus: a (Yangtze River) watershed perspective Yuqiang Xia, Ph.D Deputy Director Water Resources Department of CRSRI Changjiang Water Resources Commission
Changjiang Water Resources Commission (CWRC) • CWRC was established in February 1950, and is responsible to the Ministry of Water Resources (MWR) for the Yangtze Basin and the southwest river basins. It undertakes water administration on behalf of the MWR. • Its responsibilities also include law enforcement, integrated management, conservation, distribution and protection of water resources, basin planning, flood control and drought relief, water project construction and management, river channel management, sand extraction management, soil and water conservation, scientific research and management of water projects…… • CWRC has over 20,000 staff, of which 8,000 are experienced professionals relating to water resources and hydropower.
Changjiang River Scientific Research Institute (CRSRI) CRSRI is subordinated to the CWRC and dedicated to provide scientific and technological decision making support for national water sector and the harnessing, protection, utilization and administration of Changjiang River. CRSRI also aims to offer high-level technical services and consultation and to develop high-tech products for related industries and projects. Flood Control Physical Model of Changjiang River

Are current works on water enough for supporting the Belt? ? Economic belt Water work indirect Water-Economy Nexus
Q1. Are water resources enough for supporting mega-city clusters development along the Yangtze River? Middle Yangtze River Yangtze River Delta Chengdu-Chongqing not enough
Q2. Are water resources enough for supporting oil-gas industry development along the Yangtze River? water fights
Q3. Can the Belt (waterway) be created in a green corridor and with a harmonious international water relations? TGD -Water pollutions and sewage treatment; -Decade debate on Nu river (international); -Dams/reservoirs; -ecological protection; -Inland nuclear power stations (Hunan, Hubei, Jiangxi) a long way
Q4. What is the urgent and prospective work called for decision support on building the Belt (waterway) ? Water-Energy-Environment Nexus 保护环境 提高效率 减少依赖 统筹规划
