Spring 2010 msti131z.pbworks.com Instructor: Melissa Ziegler mziegler@sjfc.edu Wednesday 6:15-9:20 p.m. (585) 943-6403 MSTI 131 – Educational Computing Course Description: The intent of this course is to deliver educational technology tools into the hands of pre-service teachers. The purpose is to create teachers that are not simply able to use technological tools but are able to create educational technology tools that have been constructed and designed to enhance and extend their ability to teach and deliver content more effectively. Consequently, their students will learn to use a variety of educational tools and have a far better grasp on how technology can enhance their learning environment. Out of Class Technical Support: Technical and trouble-shooting assistance for MSTI 131 is available at the Math Center which is located on the 3rd floor of the Golisano Gateway Building. Visit their website and check the schedule of the tutors before you visit: http://home.sjfc.edu/mathcenter/index.asp College Policy Concerning Students with Disabilities: In compliance with St. John Fisher College policy and applicable laws, appropriate academic accommodations are available to you if you are a student with a disability. All requests for accommodations must be supported by appropriate documentation/diagnosis and determined reasonable by St. John Fisher College. Students with documented disabilities (physical, learning, psychological) who may need academic accommodations are advised to make an appointment with the Coordinator of Serivices for Students with Disabilities in the Office of Academic Affairs, Kearney 202. Late notification will delay requested accommodations. Tools We Will Use: Weebly, Blogging, PowerPoint, Prezi, Publisher, PhotoStory3, Windows Movie Maker, and Wikis.   Course Expectations: Emphasis will be placed on software proficiency and the development of educational tools. All students are expected to complete class and course work. It is assumed that all students are pre-service teachers in an undergraduate teacher education program at St. John Fisher College. As such, the highest standards of professional conduct and workmanship are expected. Assignments are to be turned in on their due dates. Late assignments will only be accepted with a valid medical excuse. All work is to be delivered in digital format. It is anticipated that students will maintain the highest of professional standards in their class attendance, in peer relationships and in class participation. Failure to follow these expectations will result in lowered class grades or dismissal from the course.

  3. Grading: Late Project Submissions: Any project that is submitted past the deadline will be penalized as follows: 0-24 hours (up to 1 day) -10% 24-48 hours (between 1 and 2 days) -20% 48-72 hours (between 2 and 3 days) -30% 73+hours (3 days and after) Grade of F on project
