  1. Living in the Solomon Islands is an Adventure

  2. My Story • What Adventure means for me: • Pushing you out of your comfort zone. • Achieving something you haven't done before. • Learning new things. • Fun •I like living in the Solomon Islands because it’s adventurous and at the same time it pushes me out of my comfort zone for example seeing people walk down the road with machetes and homemade bows and arrows. •I can go fishing and canoeing everyday if I wanted to. We live on a boat and great fishing is just of the back of it. I always want to catch a bigger fish than the last one, this is a adventure to me. • I can run free, I like finding all the WW II history about Tulagi. This teaches me something new. • After I finish my school work I go to dad’s work and drive forklifts, tractors, diggers and the tender. I like this because I love driving machinery and boats and to me it’s an fun adventure. Me and others rigging Me driving the digger Me in my dug out canoe

  3. Adventure Fishing, Scuba Diving, Walking Tracks, WWII Tours, Snorkeling • Fishing There are many fishing tours and excellent fishing spots to explore. It ranges from small reef fish to big game fish. Many people come to the Solomon’s to go game fishing, the most sought after fish being the Marlin and tuna. • Scuba Diving There are WWII wrecks just out of Tulagi which is about an hour ferry ride away from Honiara, the Capital of Solomon Islands. The HMNZS Moa is just under two minutes from Tulagi. Tulagi Dive Charters would be able to take you to this wreck and many more. • Walking Tracks There are many places to go, Savo is full with good interesting walks. At Savo you can view magapode birds (Australian bush turkey) and their eggs. After that you can walk to Cow Girl Hot Water Springs and dip your feet in. This is caused by the volcanic activity on Savo Island.

  4. Adventure Continued • •World War II Tours • The Solomon Islands is full of World War II history, and there are many tours to choose from. Did you know that the Japanese landed on Guadalcanal on 7th August 1942.On September 16 marines were brought from Tulagi to regain Henderson field and started making and airfield which is still called Henderson today. Which was preoperational by the Americans on October 15 1942. I would recommend John Innes. He has set up history tours on Guadalcanal and Tulagi • •Snorkeling • You can snorkel nearly any were in the Solomon Islands. The Western Province would be the most spectacular place to go snorkeling because of the untouched reefs. Fat Boys Hotel would provide a great snorkeling spot, just hop in the water and explore the underwater village.

  5. Challenges Mum: •These are some of the things my mum thinks are challenging. Everything tacks so much longer to do or to get, in Island time. For example to get food for the family it is a three day trip because you are dependant on the ferry and it’s timetable. •Language barrier, living on the Island being the only white people you have to speak pidgin English 24/7 and try to understand what they are saying as well, the longer I am here the better I get. Sometimes I just which I could have a conversation in plain English. •Patience would probably be the biggest challenge in being here the simplest tasks just take so much longer to achieve. The thing I find the most challenging

  6. Challenges Continued • Me: • • Not being able to be in Tulagi and doing what I like doing because of health and safety issues, and know we don’t know when we are going issues. because of provincial government. This is really disheartening for me.

  7. HISTORY My Knowledge: • •Solomon Islands is full of history it is scattered all over. Japanese had taken over Tulagi and made plans for it but the Americans the bombed Tulagi on 7th August 1942 Then landed on Tulagi but not where the Japanese suspected. This was a huge advantage to the Americans. They overtook Tulagi bit by bit then the Japanese realized that the Americans had landed somewhere else. They came out of there caves and started defending Tulagi but did not succeed and destroyed the Japanese planes, then the Americans mad Tulagi into a base and settlement.Find out this history was apart of my adventure

  8. Culture •I am enjoying learning the Solomon Islands Culture and enjoying taking part in it. Now that’s a real adventure.

  9. Resources Used •My own knowledge learnt from living in the Solomon Islands. •Internet Wikipedia •Solomon Islands Museum •American World War II War Memorial •Mum •Tourist Pamphlets
