Discipling New Members

This course focuses on discipling new members, teaching them the importance of a daily relationship with Christ, closer communion with God, and allowing the Holy Spirit to work in their lives. It also covers Bible-based principles of living, the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and the role of mentoring in nurturing new believers. The course aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively witness to others and cultivate a strong fellowship within the church.

  2. SPIRITUAL GROWTH • A daily, personal relationship with Christ • A closer communion with God • Allowing the Holy Spirit to work in your life

  5. Christian Lifestyle Talents, possessions, money, time, and health are all gifts from the Lord Bible-based principles of living “Whatsoever things...” (Phil. 4:8,9) “Do not judge others...” (Rom. 14:1-13) SDA worldwide chain of hospitals, clinics, schools.

  6. 1. The Body Temple “You are not your own. You were bought with a price; therefore, honor God with your body.” 1 Cor 6:19

  7. 2. The Original Diet • Simple Food – fruit, nuts, grains (Lev. 11) • SDA Church given special insight into healthful living by Spirit of Prophecy • Eight Life Laws

  8. Eight Life Laws • I will breathe deeply and stand erect. • 2. I will be clean and will drink pure water. • 3. I will eat the right food at the right time in the right amount. • I will trust and obey God for strength and health.

  9. Eight Life Laws cont. • I will not take anything harmful into my body. • I will work and exercise. • I will enjoy the sunshine. • I will rest and get enough sleep.

  10. 3. Purpose of Christian Lifestyle • 2 Cor. 5:5, 19, 20 • Offer your bodies to God • Not conform, but transform, Rom. 12:1,2 • Prepare God’s people for works of service • Build up the Body of Christ • Reach unity in faith and knowledge • Become mature Christians, Eph. 4:12,13.

  11. WITNESSING • Salt 1. makes thirsty for living water 2. preserves until Christ comes 3. flavors with the goodness of the Lord • Light 1. shines brightly 2. attracts 3. guides

  12. ASSIMILATION New members may join our church, but unless they are cared for, fed, and nurtured, they will not stay in the church.

  13. MENTORING Definition: Mentoring means training new members to let their light shine, so that they become salt on earth to others who do not know the love of Jesus.

  14. New Believers Must: • Be drawn into God’s family • Be trained to reach out to the family of man “When souls are converted, set them to work at once.” Evangelism p. 355

  15. MENTORING • A Two-Way Blessing • Strengthens your own spiritual life • Develops spiritual life of others • “TO WIN AND TRAIN IS TO RETAIN”

WHAT MENTORS DO  Accept newer members into the church family  Encourage new believers; anytime, anywhere  Provide friendship and spiritual bonding  Teach by example  Listen to questions  Offer Bible-based solutions  Provide positive help in times of need  Share from personal testimony  Point new believers to Christ  Prepare new believers for active service for the Lord  Explain SDA church structure

  20. Christ’s method alone will give true success in reaching people. The Savior mingled with [people] as one who desired their good. He showed His sympathy for them, ministered to their needs, and won their confidence. Then He bade them, “follow Me.” Ministry of Healing, p. 143
