On March 14, 2010, a reflection on 2 Peter 3:10-13 highlights the unexpected nature of the Lord's return and the transformative events that will accompany it, including the destruction of the current heavens and earth. Believers are encouraged to live holy and godly lives as they eagerly anticipate a new heaven and new earth—a place of righteousness where sorrow, pain, and tears will be no more. Echoing the promise found in Romans and Revelation, we are reminded to be prepared for the glorious day of His coming when we will see Him face to face.

Unexpected nature to the Lord’s return (10, 12). • The heavens will disappear (10). • They will disappear with a roar (10). • They will be destroyed by fire (12). • The elements will be destroyed and the earth will be laid bare (12). • The elements will melt in the heat (12). • Everything will be destroyed in this way (11).
Preparation for His return (11-13). • We ought to live holy and godly lives (11). • As we look forward to the day of God (12). • As we speed its coming (12). • We are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth (13). • This is the home of righteousness (13). • In keeping with His promise (13).
