The Glorious Promise of Christ's Return: Living in Expectation of a New Heaven

  1. March 14, 2010 “Come Like a Thief” 2 Peter 3:10-13

  2. I. Unexpected nature to the Lord’s return (10, 12). • The heavens will disappear (10). • They will disappear with a roar (10). • They will be destroyed by fire (12). • The elements will be destroyed and the earth will be laid bare (12). • The elements will melt in the heat (12). • Everything will be destroyed in this way (11).

  3. Preparation for His return (11-13). • We ought to live holy and godly lives (11). • As we look forward to the day of God (12). • As we speed its coming (12). • We are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth (13). • This is the home of righteousness (13). • In keeping with His promise (13).

  4. Romans 4:21 “being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.”

  5. Revelation 21:1 “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away…”

  6. What A Day That Will Be There is coming a day When no heartaches shall come No more clouds in the sky No more tears to dim the eye All is peace forevermore On that happy golden shore What a day glorious day that will be

  7. What A Day That Will Be What a day that will be When my Jesus I shall see When I look upon His face The One who saved me by His grace When He takes me by the hand And leads me thro’ the Promised Land What a day glorious day that will be

  8. What A Day That Will Be There’ll be no sorrow there No more burdens to bear No more sickness no pain No more parting over there And forever I will be With the One who died for me What a day glorious day that will be
