  3. Subject • Typically an important, inspiring, or fascinating person • May or may not be famous • Must be presented as compelling and worth studying

  4. Writer – Subject Connection • The biographer typically has a deep interest in and a strong appreciation for the subject

  5. Research • Uses: • Primary-source documents (original documents) • Other works on the subject • Interviews with the subject • Interviews with people about the subject

  6. Interpretation • Facts are interpreted and analyzed and presented in a meaningful way • Consideration on the order, details, and connections are important

  7. Author’s Tone (attitude) • May openly state their attitude • Or can show attitude through word choice and details
