JP-G Topic/Task/TA 1 : QoS aware burst aggregation algorithm for Grid applications • Progress & achievements • Implementation of the traffic classification algorithm in FPGA in the Edge router Virtex-II-Pro FPGA with embedded processor • Development and implementation of a application aware traffic classification algorithm • Design of a traffic classification algorithm which takes into account Grid application requirements (computational, storage, network) • Work in progress: • Test and validation of the algorithm with the real data traffic • Collaboration with radio astronomy and particle physics • Planning a joint experiment with radio astronomy and particle physics • Publications Targeting a publication at the end of the activity

JP-G Topic/Task/TA 2 : QoS aware Fault Tolerance in Optical Global Grid Computing • Joint Activity participants • Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna – SSSUP (Activity leader) • Akademia Gorniczo-Hutnicza - AGH • Joint Activity objective Assure Quality of Service aware fault tolerance to grid applications: • Maintain not only connectivity after failure but also other Quality of Service (QoS) parameters, such as bandwidth, etc. • Assure Quality of Resilience (QoR) to different applications

JP-G Topic/Task/TA 2 : QoS-aware Fault Tolerance in Optical Global Grid Computing Progress Mathematical modelling of reliability Compared simulation results with analytical results on PON recovery schemes Future work Utilize the same type of reliability evaluation by inserting also server fault tolerance scheme Provide an experimental validation of the obtained results Planned mobility action

JP-G Topic/Task/TA 5: Grid Optical Burst Switched Network • This joint activity is currently supported by three mobility actions • Mobility action from BUPT in China • Collaboration on edge router design and implementation • Mobility action from UNIBO-DEIS in Italy • Collaboration on control plane design and implementation • Mobility action from IBBT (Ghent) in Belgium • Collaboration on network architecture and scalable Grid enabled core switch architecture design • Progress & achievements Final stage of a fully functional Grid enabled OBS test-bed • Based on SIP protocol and OBS network Concept • It fully supports Grid functionality and mobility • It can interface to real applications and can be coupled with any type of Grid services • Publications • conferences • accepted for publication on ONDM2007, TridentCom2007, Broadnet2007 • journal • targeting a journal publication at the end of activity
