Tibetian Buddhist Prayer Flags Om Mani Tibetian Buddhist Prayer Flags Om Mani Pedme Hum Pedme Hum The Tibetan Buddhist Prayer Flags are inscribed with auspicious symbols, invocations, prayers, and mantras. These prayer flags as per Tibetan Buddhist practice are placed outside homes and places of spiritual practice to carry the vibrations of mantras and positive energy. It can be placed both indoors or outdoors of your house, in office, on bikes and in cars. Prayer flags moving in the wind generate a natural positive energy. The Prayer Flags are made in five colours representing the five elements and the Five Pure Lights and are arranged in a specific order. From left to right the order of the colours and their significance is: Blue – represents Sky and Space; White – represents Air and Wind; Red – represents Fire; Green – represents Water; and Yellow– represents Earth. There is a common misconception that these flags carry prayers to God. In fact as per the Tibetan belief, the vibrations caused by blowing wind on the flags carry the goodwill, peace, wisdom, strength and compassion into all pervading space and helps in bringing benefit to all. Also as per the Tibetan medicine scriptures, the five elements symbolized by the prayer flags promote health and harmony.

  2. The Prayer Flags should be kept with proper care and respect since they have symbols and mantras which are sacred. Prayer flags should not be placed on the ground. Faded or old prayer flags should ideally be burned. Prayer flags are known as “Dar Cho” in Tibetan language where “Dar” means to increase life, prosperity, fortune, health and wealth and “Cho” means all sentient beings.
