  6. University Programs • arts, humanities, social sciences • pure & applied sciences, engineering • business & commerce • fine & performing arts • professional programs (education, law, medicine, nursing etc…)

Admission Requirements • high school diploma (OSSD) • 6 grade 12 U or M courses • minimum 70% average • many universities or programs will have higher admission averages • some programs require as many as 5 specific U courses as prerequisites • supplementary information (e.g., auditions, questionnaires)

  8. Generalized Admission Requirements • arts, humanities, social sciences • 12 U English • 5 other 12 U / M courses • pure & applied sciences, engineering • 12 U English • 12 U Advanced Functions, Calculus & Vectors • 12 U Biology, Chemistry, Physics (at least 2) • 1 other 12 U / M course

  9. Generalized Admission Requirements • business & commerce • 12 U English • 12 U Math (at least 1, often 2) • 4 other U / M credits (business recommended) • fine & performing arts • 12 U English • 5 other U / M credits • audition / portfolio

  11. Admission Process • application done on-line to the Ontario Universities Application Centre • 3 program choices for $120 • $40 per additional choice • deadline mid-January • average based on 6 grade 12 U / M courses (may / may not include prerequisites)

  12. Admissions Process (cont…) • conditional offers made from Jan – June • most made after semester 2 midterm marks • response required – approx. end of May • conditions must be met

  13. What will it cost? • Tuition & fees $ 5000 - 6000 • Textbooks & supplies approx. $2000 $ 7000 - 8000 PLUS • Residence & meals $ 6000 - 9000 TOTAL $ 13 000 – 17 000 / year

Mythbusters! • Students must have U level math and / or science to go to university • Students should take all U / M level courses to “keep their options open” • Students taking P level courses in grades 9 / 10 can’t go on to university • University is what ALL students should be striving towards • University graduates get the highest paying jobs
