What is recycling? • Recyclingisa processwherethematerials are processedinto new materialsthat are usedagain. • Alsorecycleisto use a productforanythingother uses thanthoseforwhichitwasmanufactured. • Recycling reduces theeffect of wasteontheenvironment, as itpreventsthousands of tons of themgotolandfill, enablingits use and valorisation.

  3. In Seville... The municipal companyLipasamisresponsibleforwastecollection in thiscity. Lipasam can collectrecyclablewastelikepaper, cardboard, cans, glass, packings, batteries and otherwaste more difficulttoprocesslikepaint, inks, electronicwaste and more.

  4. HowdoesLipasamwork? • Everyday, Lipasam’sGarbageTrucksgothroughallthestreetscollectinggarbage. • Otherwaytocollectgarbageisbypneumaticcollection (undergroundconduits) and RecyclingPoints. • A boatcollectsgarbagefromtheriverbottom. • Lipasamalsoisresponsibleforcleaningthecity.

  5. Glass container Packaging container There are 4,598 containers of packagings in Seville. Thecollection of theseproductsiscarriedoutthroughthe use of modernvehicleswithcrane open box. There are 1,734 glass containers in Seville. Each ton of recycled glass saves more than 1000 kg of raw materials and over 100 kg of oil.

  6. Paper and cardboard container. There are 1,995 paper/cardboardcontainers in Seville. One ton of paperinvolves: -Savings of 0.4 hectares of forest. -Decreased 60% energy. -Watersavings of 85%. Organic container To deposit food scraps, objects and non-recyclable waste. The organic material deposited in this container will be converted into compost.

  7. Oil container. Battery container. Batteries should never be thrown away. One single battery can pollute severely. • Used oil can mix up the water creating serious health and pollution problems. You have to place them in a plastic bottle tightly closed.

  12. THINGS WE CAN DO AT HOME : At home the rubbish should be classified in different bins: the paper, the organic, the glass and the plastic one.
