We made an apple-cano from an apple, baking soda and vinegar. We used paint and stamped apples from the paint to make impressions. 10/31/16 Halloween Dress Up 11/12/16 Saturday, Fall Fest 11/14 – 11/18 Parent Conferences 11/18 Friday Pre-K Pow Wow 11/22 Early Release Day 11/23-25 Thanksgiving Holidays Weekly Tidbits • Please read the letter in this folder regarding the zoo field trip next Friday, October 14. • Thanks to all who sent snack this week! Students have lunch so early, the snack helps them make it through the rest of the day. • I will be dying the first t-shirts of the year from the ones you sent at the beginning of the year. If you have not sent them, please do so. Send three white shirts one size larger than current size. • Please collect any coffee cans or any kind of a can with a plastic lid which could be used as a drum. Oatmeal cylinder, frosting tubs, etc. We will be making drums for the pow wow.

We had two food activities and explored the food with our senses. We also made a texture hand. Weekly Tidbits • If you have not sent back your child’s decorated person, don’t forget to do so. • Snack Calendar: I may have skipped a week on the snack calendar, so any help with snacks this week would be greatly appreciated!  • Please collect any coffee cans or any kind of a can with a plastic lid which could be used as a drum. We made patterned Indian necklaces and drums for the pow-wow. We are learning about Thanksgiving, Pilgrims, Indians and Thanksgiving foods. A PEEK AT OUR WEEK • The fall fest is Saturday and we will need volunteers to help at our booth which is a bean bag toss. Our class has the 6:00-7:00 hour. Also, each parent is to send a 20 count bag of snack chips which will be the prizes in the booth. If you have not sent them you can bring them to the booth. • Nov 18 is the pre-k pow wow and the cafeteria will serve a thanksgiving meal. Mrs. Herring asked us to let parents know if you check your student out early it will be unexcused. OUR LUNCH TIME WILL BE 10:20 on that day due to the expected crowds.

We are reviewing patterns and shapes along with the new letter and number. Weekly tidbits • We will wear green on Wednesday to represent our character trait of responsibility. • On our early release days of 12/20 and 12/21 our lunch time will move up 15 minutes to 10:20. • We will be having our Christmas parties on 12/21 at 12:00. Any treats or drinks you send will be greatly appreciated. Please do not send drinks which are red in color. We will have the party in the room where there is carpet and the school does not want any stains. When we have red juices for snack we are eating in the hallway where there is tile and not carpet. If you wish to send cupcakes, please send mini cupcakes which are easier for them to handle. Thank you!

We are reviewing patterns and shapes along with the new letter and number. WEEKLY TIDBITS • Thanks to everyone who attended the Pow Wow and Thanksgiving luncheon. It was a great success. • Students are selling candy cane grams for 50 cents each. See the red paper in this folder for details. • I am sending home a green Christmas tree for you and your child to countdown to the big day. It incorporates math objectives as well as being fun! Instructions are included and we hope you have a good time with it. • I am also including letters describing the Santa store and the December calendar.

We are also studying topics related to Winter. 1/13 Pigs in a blanket 1/13 Report Cards go home 1/16 Martin Luther King Holiday A PEEK AT OUR WEEK • We will be giving an assessment this coming week and the results page will be our “report card” for the last six weeks. It will be in next week’s Friday folder. • Remember there is no school on Monday the 16th due to the Martin Luther King Holiday. • On 1/13 we will be allowing the students to wrap up in a blanket and read…and also giving them a treat of a warm pig in a blanket!

We made penguins and discussed the way they huddle for warmth. A PEEK AT OUR WEEK • Remember there is no school on Monday the 16th due to the Martin Luther King Holiday. • My students have done well with their crayons this year; however, it might be time for a new box for the second half of the year. If you are able to, it would be nice for your child to have a new 16 count crayon box. Thank you!

We had milk chocolate milkshakes for the letter M. A PEEK AT OUR WEEK • On Friday Evening there will be a family movie night at the Elementary. It will be the live action Jungle Book movie. Drinks and popcorn will be sold for a quarter. Please read the purple sheet for more details. • Our students will be making a trail mix on one hundreds day. The students will count out ten each of ten different items to make a 100 item trail mix. To help us in this, please send the following item for the class to count by next Thursday, Jan. 26. This will let me know which items I need to purchase for Monday. Thank you in advance!

If your child is making Valentines for the class, please do not address them to specific students. They will be placing them in each other’s cans by just going down the line. The party will be at 2:30. The parent volunteers are meeting at the park at 8:45 to hide the eggs. The egg hunt will be at 9:30. We will allow the students to play on the playground equipment. We are discussing Spring, weather and rainbows. We discussed rainbows being created by sunlight and water. We did a rainbow craft. A PEEK AT OUR WEEK • Come to the gym at 6:00 April the 11th to hear about the transition your child will make to Kinder. • On May 4th we will go to the Fishery in Athen’s as a field trip. Cost is $2.50 for both students and adults. I am looking for adults to come help us fish. Let me know if you are interested. • Easter is coming up and with it, a couple of events. We are discussing Spring, insects, and plants. We discussed the life cycle of the butterfly. We are nurturing larvae to hopefully produce butterflies. We will have an Easter hat parade, and we will make a hat for your student. • We will have an Easter egg hunt at Reagan park for which we will need some parent volunteers for hiding eggs. • Each child should bring one dozen plastic eggs with individually wrapped candy already placed inside the eggs. We have been making flowers and talking about the butterfly life cycle. Our caterpillars are changing into their chrysalis’ and the students are excited to see the process! A PEEK AT OUR WEEK • On May 4th we will go to the Fishery in Athen’s as a field trip. I am looking for adults to come help us fish. We have been discussing Zoo and Rainforest animals and the life cycle and needs of plants. A PEEK AT OUR WEEK • On May 4th we will go to the Fishery in Athen’s as a field trip. Cost is $2.50 for both students and adults. Please send the money in as soon as possible. I am looking for adults to come help us fish. Let me know if you are interested. Please read the letter about the trip in the folder today for more details. • Mrs. Herring asked us to remind everyone that if students wear shorts they must be long enough to go down to 5” above the lower edge of the kneecap.
