  3. The Best Day of the Year!December 13 • Jamie Foxx was born December 13, 1967 • Kofi Annan was elected secretary general of the United Nations • Saddam Hussein was captured • The most attended basketball game was the Michigan State University vs. University of Kentucky at Ford Field

  4. Hobbies and Interests • I am interested in the medical field so I will try to pursue a job as a Nurse Practitioner. • Shop • Hang out with homies • Sleep • Eat • Watch TV

  6. Senior Project For my senior project I would like to contribute to the research being done to improve our global health.

  7. Top 3 Diseases affecting the world • HIV/Aids • Malaria • Tuberculosis

  8. HIV/AIDS • HIV is a virus. Viruses infect the cells of living organisms and replicate within those cells. A virus can damage the cells it replicates in, which is one of the things that can make an infected creature become ill. Then it can eventually turn into AIDS. • This affects men, women and children worldwide. • There are 5 million new cases each year. • Also 4 million deaths each year

  9. Malaria • An infective disease caused by sporozoan parasites that are transmitted through the bite of an infected Anopheles mosquito. • Prominent in developing countries like Africa. • 300-500 million new cases each year • 1.5-2.7 million deaths each year

  10. Tuberculosis • An infectious disease caused by the tubercle bacillus and characterized by the formation of tubercles in body tissues, especially in the lungs. • Affects men, women and children worldwide. • There are 8 million new cases each year • Also 2 million deaths worldwide

  11. Conclusion • I am currently in a program at the Seattle Biomedical Research Institute where we learn about these infectious diseases and the research being done on theses diseases. We also do different labs. Hopefully I will be able to help with the research in the future.
