Through awareness programs, scholarships, mentoring, and networking, IABA addresses the lack of representation in the industry.   1. Our Beginning • Founded in 1992, with an initial meeting of: • 35 Designated actuaries, 14 Actuarial students, 12 College students, 3 College professors, 2 Consultants • From the U.S., Caribbean & Canada

  2. Our Mission • To contribute to an increase the number of black actuaries to influence the successful career development, civic growth and achievement of black actuaries. Our Vision • To be the world’s leading actuarial organization dedicated to influencing diversity by developing and recognizing the achievement of black actuaries.

  3. Importance of IABA • IABA exists to address the issue of minority representation in the industry. We have identified the following root causes. • 1) lack of awareness among black students about the profession • 2) lack of support through the exam process • 3) lack of advocacy during career development • 4) lack of role models for self visualization
