Founded in 1992, IABA aims to increase the number of black actuaries and promote their career development and achievements. Through awareness programs, scholarships, mentoring, and networking, IABA addresses the lack of representation in the industry. Our Beginning • Founded in 1992, with an initial meeting of: • 35 Designated actuaries, 14 Actuarial students, 12 College students, 3 College professors, 2 Consultants • From the U.S., Caribbean & Canada
Our Mission • To contribute to an increase the number of black actuaries to influence the successful career development, civic growth and achievement of black actuaries. Our Vision • To be the world’s leading actuarial organization dedicated to influencing diversity by developing and recognizing the achievement of black actuaries.
Importance of IABA • IABA exists to address the issue of minority representation in the industry. We have identified the following root causes. • 1) lack of awareness among black students about the profession • 2) lack of support through the exam process • 3) lack of advocacy during career development • 4) lack of role models for self visualization
