  1. How to Choose the Best WordPress Theme For Your Blog WordPress is a great option not only for a blog but for an entire content management system as well. It is relatively easy to use, the basic framework is constantly updated and the number of plug in functions and tools available are more extensive than you will find for any other platform (unless you are a coding whiz and can write all of your own.) One of the very first decisions that you have to make with WordPress however is just which theme you are going to choose. And as there are literally thousands of them, that is not always the easiest thing to do. Here, however, are a few things that should help you make the right decision: UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A THEME AND A THEME FRAMEWORK

  2. In very basic terms, a WordPress theme acts as a skin for your site. The coding is set so that a standard pre-defined look and function is present at all times. A theme framework, on the other hand, is more like a skeleton, it provides you with the basics but there is much more room for customization. If yours is going to be a very simple site a theme will be fine. However, for more complex offerings (especially e commerce) investing a few bucks in a premium WordPress theme framework like Thesis or Genesis is a much better idea. DON’T GOOGLE IT One of the biggest mistakes you can make when choosing a WordPress theme is Googling the phrase ‘free WordPress themes’ and then actually choosing a theme from one of the results that pops up on that first page. These themes are very often filled with spam code, bad links and all kinds of other nasties that you may not even realize exist until it is too late. Great free themes do exist. Some clever and creative people do give away free WordPress themes to showcase their skills and for others it is actually a hobby. But you won’t find them anywhere but on WordPress.org itself. So if your budget allows you zero dollars to purchase a theme, head here to choose from more than 1,000 free themes that are tested, virus free and user-friendly. MAKE A DECISION Sometimes people opt for a certain WordPress theme that they are not quite sure about just so that they can begin getting their site built. They are not so bothered about the fact that they are not completely in love with it as it is fairly easy to change a theme later if they find something better. But changing themes usually means changing the site’s appearance, and that is a terrible idea from the all important branding point of view. Taking the time to find a theme that is exactly what you want may delay the actual creation of your sparkly new website a little, but that will pay off in the long run.
