  2. Project Status 14th ESA-JAXA Meeting in January at ESTEC. [ESA] • After December Ministerial Conference and February SPC Meeting (Discussion on ESA budget and mass), ESA started the ITT (Invitation to Tender) process from February 2006 (due May 17). • ESA Prime contractor will be defined in the fall 2006. ESA & JAXA will make a Kick-Off meeting with the prime in November 2006. [JAXA] • Overall development schedule is relaxed by about 1 year. • In 2006FY (2006 Apr. – 2007 Mar.), MMO design/development in Japan will be concenrtated to the critical parts. • In 2007FY (2007 Apr. – 2008 Mar.), design & development in accordance with ESAImplementation Phase from early 2007. • Extension of the ESA-JAXA LoA (Letter of Agreement) cosigned by ESA DG Dr. Dordain and JAXA President Dr. Tachikawa from end of 2005 to end of 2006 (MoU in progress to be signed 2006).

  9. MMO-MCS I/F related to payloads~ Short Summary of ESA-JAXA meeting #14 (Jan 2006) ~ 1. Mechanical 1) Total Mass “250kg” including equipment-level and system-level margins (no additional margin) 2) Other items HGA 90-deg inclined during launch. Clamp-band with soft-release MMO separation mechanism. 2. Electrical 1) Launch & Cruise ESA and JAXA agreed on MMO dormant mode during cruise. 2) Battery maintenance (& health check) Every 3 month 3) Other items MMO cruise phase power from MPO: 300W 3. Thermal 1) in Orbit MMO temperatures would benefit from the injection approaching from the South Pole. (to appear later) 2) Other items MMO Sun shield design Details will be discussed and determined after the ESA prime selection after Nov 2006.

  10. High Gain Antenna with Pointing Mechanism HGA(High Gain Antenna) APM (Antenna Pointing Mechanism) ADM (Antenna Despun Mechanism)

  11. MMO System Status related to Payloads~Summary of MMO Design Meeting #3 (Jan 2006)~ 1. Mechanical(to appear later) MSASI: moved to the MMO lower deck. MPPE: Lower deck adjuster will be moved to outside. Relaxation of location restriction at the corner of the side panel. 2. Electrical(to appear later) According to the system redundancy studies, independent power supply might be allocated for instruments out of the MDP chassis. 3. Thermal(to appear later) Revised thermal analysis: 2006/4/M (-2006/5/E) Both Hot (at Mercury) & Cold cases (in Cruising) should be taken care of. * Request: Please provide the latest thermal capacity & power consumption in I-ICD. * Problems: Conductive White Paint (HGA/MGA)  Non-conductive? High temperature valve selection (Reaction control system) 4. Communication For the relaxation of the mechanical environment, the size of HGA is little bit reduced. 5. PA & Safety(to appear later) “MMO safety review” is now undergoing in JAXA.

  12. Request to Payload Team Members • Document Update Schedule • Please update MMO I-ICD (Instrument Interface Control Document) at any timing if you have change in the Interface. Especially, the latest thermal capacity & power consumption. • Please update MMO CDD (Configuration Data Document), accordingly. • Please submit a short Progress Report at the subsequent MMO Design Meetings with the list of Action Items & Requests to System / other subsystems & payloads.
