It was the appointed time set by God • 2. There was tremendous corruption in Israel, with the position of High Priest up for sale to highest bidder, and was given to one of the tribe of Benjamin.

Why did Christ come when he did? • Gal 4:4 but when the fulness of the time came, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, • born under the law: • Christ had to be made while the law still in effect to be “under it” and in order to eventually “fulfill” the law. • Therefore he had to live while the mosaic law was still in effect • Mat 5:17 Think not that I came to destroy the law or the prophets: I came not to destroy, but to fulfil. • Mat 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass away from the law, till all things be accomplished.

Christ’s Mission: • He had to be born under the law with our sinful nature • He had to live a life completely within the guidelines of the law. • He had to die while still under the the rule of the Mosaic law • “Rom 7:1 ….the law hath dominion over a man for so long time as he liveth • So that when he died the law had no further jurisdiction over him • Since he didn’t break any commandments of the law, fulfilling all its requirements, the grave/death could not hold him, for the result of sin is death, yet he had no sin. • Therefore the Risen Christ was a free man (so to speak), free of the law, and breaking the chains of the sin nature.
