  2. What is a family? • Traditional Family • Single Parent • Single Adult • “Empty Nesters”

  3. What do you provide? • Bed • Bedroom or shared bedroom with same gender • Food • Transportation

  4. What will it cost? • Students are provided with • Spending money • Clothes • School supplies • School field trips • Medical insurance • You provide room and board

  5. Is this tax deductible? • There is a $50 tax deduction per month

  6. Do you have to speak a foreign language? • No, they speak English very well

  7. Where will the students come from? • 40 different countries • Western & Eastern Europe • South America • Asia

  8. Scholarship Programs • Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) • From 15 Independent Republics that were formerly the Soviet Union • Russia, Ukraine, etc… • Of 40,000 students that apply, only 800 are chosen • Requirement of 50 volunteer hours in the school year • Receive spending money as part of the scholarship

  9. Scholarship Programs • Youth Exchange Study (YES) • Congress established after 9/11 • Muslim Countries • Required to do 50 hours of volunteer work in the school year

  10. How are families matched? • Host family fills out an application and home visit • Student’s have been screened and have filled out a profile • Family selects the student that best matches their interests and activities
