  4. The Symphonic Orchestra of Szczecin’s Philharmonic named after M. Karłowicz was started in 1948. Its most influential conductors were: Józef Wilkomirski and Stefan Marczyk. For many years the Orchestra has inaugurated the International Festival of the Cameral and Organ Music in Kamień Pomorski. Other events: - Usedomer Musikfestival 1999 Festival de Vlandeers 2002 the International Choir Festival in Szczecin Many famous vocalists have performed with the Orchestra: Halina Czerny-Stefańska Lidia Grychtołówna Witold Małcużyński Piotr Paleczny Edward Auer Emmanuel Ax Zahar Bron

  5. THE CASTLE OPERA HOUSE

  6. The Opera House was created in 1956 and its first seat was a gym of the Police Headquarters in Potulicka Street. It was moved to the Castle in 1958 and was called the Music Theatre. At present the Theatre has a 130-actor group with their own orchestra, choir and ballet. They have performed over 150 operas, ballets, operettas and musicals both in Polish and German. Since 1993 the Opera has been organizing the SUMMER OPERA SEASONS on the square of the Castle which attracts many viewers and tourists. The group performs abroad, mostly in Germany and Switzerland and since 1998 has been cooperating with the International Festival of Contemporary Music Named After Witold Lutosławski The present director of the Opera is Warcisław Kunc.

It is located on Soldier’s Square and is an institution with a long tradition organizing many cultural events: classical music concerts entertaining music concerts literary meetings lectures exhibitions theatrical and cabaret The Club also publishes many literary works as well as a cultural magazine "Pogranicza".

  11. It was created in 2003. The cineama offers the biggest film hits and ceremonial premiers. Dolby 3D Digital Cinema System is another attraction for cinema-goers as it enables realistic colours and amazing 3D impression.The cinema offers the Film Marathons organized for real cinema-lovers.

  12. Multikino

  13. Multikino is located in Wyzwolenia Street, in the Shopping Centre Galaxy. There are several huge cinema rooms which are very popular among Szczecin dwellers. The cinema obtained 2 prizes for its creativity and innovation: Media Trendy and Effie.

  14. Pionier 1909 Studio Cinema

  15. The cinema is located in Wojska Polskiego Avenue. It was created by Albert Pietzke who first named it „Helios”. The first film was shown on 26th September 1909 and has kept its specific climate ever since. In „Kiniarnia” you can watch a film by a table in a cafe atmasphere. Pionier became the member of a prestigious European Cinemas and Studio Cinemans nets. In August 2005 Pionier was honoured the title of the oldest working cinemans in the world.

  16. DELFIN

  17. The first movie shown in the cinema in 1957 was Wraki. The cinema soon became the cultural centre of the city. "Delfin" was also a place of cultural discussions and meetings. A small room (246 seats), great sound quality (dolby digital) and pearl screen made the cinema one of the best in the city. It was closed on the 20 June 2004

  18. KOSMOS

  19. The cinema „Kosmos” was built in 1959 on a spot of the 19th–century tenements destroyed duing the WWII at Wojska Polskiego Avenue. It was designed in an American style of the 50s. The room seated up 819 viewers. Over the entrance there was a colorful mosaic.

  23. MODERN ART GALLERY

  24. It islocated at Staromłyńska Street. Its collection amounts graphics, drawings, sculptures of the 18th century. Since 2001it has been organizig the Baltic Biennale of Arts and publishing Mare Articum – The Baltic Magazine of Arts. In 2005 it was transformed into the Museum of Modern Arts.                                             

  25. MARITIME MUSEUM

  26. It is located in the Chrobry’s Banks and was created in 1950. Its main colleections has technical objects. These are mainly ship equipmen,construction elements. There is a history classroom, an archive, modelling workshop. In the past there was also an ethnography classroom and scence classroom.

  27. MUSEUM OF THE HISTORY OF SZCZECINA

  28. It is located in the Town Hall in Mściwoja Street and was created in 1975. Its colletion abounds the objects connected with the history of Szczecin. The archeological objects originate from the researches done in the Castle of Pomeranian Dukes. The Museum offers museum lessons for all types of schools and kindergartens.

  29. CATHEDRAL MUSEUM

  30. This small museum is located in the western part of the Cathedral in Wyszyńskiego Street. Its collection abounds with objects connected with the history of the church in West Pomerania. Apart fom museum the Cathedral has also 19 chapels with many historical objects such as: St. Otton relics, Lubecki Triptych from 1505, Baptismal Font from 1682, Ciećmierz Triptych from 1370.

  31. THE CASTLE OF POMERANIAN DUKES MUSEUM

  32. The Museum concerns the history and building process of the Castle. In its collection there are photograms of the Castle from the pre-war period, photos taken just after the war and the archeological objects originating from the Castle Hill. It’s also one of few places where we can admire the original sarcophagus of princes discovered after the war.

  34. THE RED TOWN HALL IN SZCZECIN

  35. It is located in Batory Street and was created in 1875. The design was made by Konrad Kruhl. It was destroyed during the Second World War and rebuilt in the 60s of the 20th century. At present there are offices of maritime institutions such as the Maritime Council, Polish Foreign Trade Department, Maritime Council, Institute of Meteorology i Water Economy. On the ground floor there is a Chinese Restaurant and a club.

  36. SEVEN COAT TOWER

  37. It is located in Panieńska Street and is one of the well-known symbols of Szczecin. Today there is one of Szczecin’s real estate agencies and the seat of the Order of Knights. There are many legends about the tower. Its name comes from the coat-tailors who used to give money to keep the tower in the past. Another legend states that the name originates from the seven coats sewed for Prince Bogusław X.

  38. OLD TOWN HALL

  39. It was built in the 15th century on a spot of a wooden hut from 1243 where jury, court, trade court and detention were located. In 1570 it was the place of the Peace Congress after the war between Sweden and Denmark Destroyed during the WWII it was rebuilt in 1968. Since 1869 it has been the headquarters of a restaurant and the Museum of Szczecin.

  40. LOITZ TENEMENT

  41. The tenement (called in German Schweitzerhof) is one of the most known sights of Szczecin originating from the late Gothic epoch. It was built in 1539-1547 ordered by Jan Łozic (Hans Loitz). After the Łozics had gone bankrupt in 1572 the tenement was taken over by Pomeranian Dukes. In the 19th century the building was taken over bu Dubendorf brothers who devastated the tenement by destroying the sculptures and dividing it into small renting flats. After its destruction from the fire it was rebuilt in 1955 and since then it has remained the headquarters of the National High School of Arts.

  42. IONIC PALACE IN SZCZECIN

  43. It’s a classical palace situated on the White Eagle Square.Its name comes from its characteristic ionic ornaments. In the 19th century the palace became the headquarters of the Royal Bank, then the Empire Bank and after the WWI the Deutsche Bank. In 1924 the building was enlarged by adding the glass hall designed by a Szczecin’s architect Friedrich Liebergesell. At present it’s a seat of PKO BP Bank.

  44. THE CASTLE OF POMERANIAN DUKES

  45. When you enter Szczecin you can see the grey sillouette of the Castle – an old seat of Pomeranian Dukes of the Gryfit Dynasty. The Castle prepares and organizes concerts, plays, exhibitions, conferences, meetings, etc. At present it is also the headquarters of the Wespomeranian Marshall’s Office, the Opera House, the concert hall (Bogusław Hall), exhibition halls, the cinema "Zamek", the theatre "Krypta", the wedding hall, two restaurants and a small museum. Most Szczecin’s cultural events take place in the Castle and on its square.

  47. WESTPOMERANIAN LIBRARY

  48. The Westpomeranian Library named after Stanisław Staszic is the biggest library in our region. It has great collections which they exhibit, work out and hire. It also acts as a scientific, publishing and pedagogical centre. It organizes many cultural events, meetings, lectures, book promotions, conferences, etc. It guards 180 libraries in Wespomeranian region. There are about 1,5 million units in the collections of the Library: Books Magazines Special collections.

  49. YOUTH PALACE

  50. It is an educating centre. It offers artistic, sports and science classes enabling young people to develop their talents and skills.          It also organizes great cultural and sports events.      It’s open towards other centres as it cooperates with similar clubs in Poland and in the United Europe.      The members of the Palace often represent our city in Poland and abroad in such countries as: Germany, Norway, Latvia, Italy, Belgium, Austria.     They are the real ambasadors of the youth culture. There are about 2000 members of the centre who participate in the classes regularly.
