  2. According to a report by New York City Department of Transportation (DOT), almost 90 percent of NYC’s sidewalks are cra?ted from concrete. The New York City has more than 12,000 miles of concrete sidewalks and paths. This makes the maintenance of the sidewalks is a serious business.

  3. Why do sidewalks need to be maintained? With city of huge population, the sidewalks are used in extreme everyday. This leads to wear and tear and when accompanied with poor sub- base, shoddy construction, tree root growth, material erosion and more, the sidewalks end up requiring a bit of TLC.

  4. How weather plays a huge factor? Along with the above mentioned factors, weather also plays a huge role. The New York City’s winter weather makes the water freeze which in turn pushes the concrete slab out. The constant freezing and refreezing of the water make the sealts extremely weak.
