  2. My Invention !!! • How has it changed my life? • No more traffic jams, being late and jet fast travel time • How has it changed the world? • All those roads can just be for cargo • We can travel quickly anywhere • Less stress in city traffic

  3. New in my home • How has it changed my life? I don’t spend 30 minutes every evening washing up any more!!!! • How has it changed the world? • More time spent as a family • Less water used in washing • Less manual labour needed

The Changing Nature of the World • People and goods have always moved around the world, though NOT everyone and SLOWLY • Today, new advances in communication, transport and technology have encouraged one global society. • The clothes we wear, the places we shop, the food we eat, the sports we play and the TV shows we watch have integrated overseas economies and cultures. • This process of economic and cultural integration is called GLOBALISATION

  7. Drivers of Globalisation Transport • Air transport • Lower costs, increased people travelling • Land transport • Rail and road infrastructure have made faster travel time • Sea transport • Cargo ships have increased in size and thus the cost of transporting goods has declined.

Drivers of Globalisation • Communication • The Internet • Small businesses can market their product globally • People can access information quickly at a low cost. • Satellite Technology • Relay and transmit information everyday, including television, telephone calls, weather information, and military intelligence.

Drivers of Globalisation • World Trade • International Trade • Advances in technology and lower transport costs has increased the volume of trade between countries. • Money flows into and out of local communities. • Trade Organisations • Finding a balance between protecting local cultures and increasing the economic benefit of trade. • Intergovernmental organisations work to promote fair trade. Groups include - World trade Organisation, International Monetary Fund and the World Bank

TNCs & Globalisation • A company that has its head quarters in a major city with branches all around the world. • Cheap labour found in developing nations • Products sold in developed nations for higher prices. • This separation of production and profits leads to greater inequality. • Mass producing a product that is the same all around the world, thus reducing cultural differences.
