Stryker Backup Environments Prior to TSM • Original Environment • Veritas Netbackup • 2 Libraries • 6 Drive LTO Gen2 60 Slot • 4 Drive LTO Gen1 30 Slot • Moved off Veritas because of Software Maintenance Charges
Stryker Backup Environments Prior to TSM • Previous Environment • EMC (Legato) networker • 2 Libraries • 6 Drive LTO Gen2 60 Slot (Physical library) • 28 TB usable EMC DL700 (VTL) • Goal 1 was to keep 2 weeks of Data on VTL • EMC Sizing engagement undersized – actually needed 250TB to accomplish 2 week objective • Goal 2 was to have 2 copies of data and send one offsite. • Original Environment was backed up to tape overnight using all 10 drives • This environment did not have the capacity to generate a copy of data to send offsite • Goal 3 was to be able to set Data Retention capabilities for long periods of time
Stryker Current Environment • Current Environment • Tivoli Storage Manager • 2 Libraries • 12 Drive LTO Gen4 200+ Slot (Physical library – TS3500) • 28 TB usable EMC DL700 (VTL) • Data with a high probability of restore goes to VTL • All other Data goes directly to tape • Benefits of TSM • Backup time of ERP production database cut by 50% • Capability to generate copy of all backup data to send offsite
