Skills and Talents Inventory (STI) • The STI project was described in letter from DG and also in the Weekly Bulletin (No. 33/2004) • http://ais.cern.ch./apps/sti • Three information sessions were held during the summer • ~ 700 staff attended • Last information session will be held next week • 16 September 2004 - TH amphitheatre (4-3-006), 10h30 – 12h00 • N.B. likely that room will be changed to main auditorium • The database has been in production for about 1 month • 19% of CERN staff have submitted an entry so far • Every staff member is asked to make their entry by end Sept 2004 • Automatic reminders will be sent by email • Please make your entry as soon as possible PH/SFT Group Meeting
STI – Experience so far • Select skills from the ‘Competency Model’ • Domain (12), Skill, Specialization • For example : Domain 7 – Information Technology • Skill 1 – Application development • Specialization 4 : Modeling and simulation (e.g. GEANT, …) • ….. • Skill 9 – Software development technologies • Specialization 1 : object oriented languages (e.g. C++, Java, ..) • Skill 10 – System Management • Specialization 12 – web server management • Competency model is being used correctly • only 7% ‘other’ PH/SFT Group Meeting
STI – Experience so far • "Expert" level is being over-used. • About 24% of the 1310 specializations validated so far are given the "Expert" level. • The ‘Expert’ level is reserved for people who are ‘able to innovate or to make forward moves in a domain’. • “Experts” develop concepts or theories.
