Relationship Between LV Function and CV Risk Factors in MESA MRI Ancillary Study

This study aims to determine the relationship between baseline LV function and the change in LV function over 3-5 years, as well as the relationship between baseline subclinical CV diseases and change in LV function. The study population consists of 1300 participants from the MESA Field Centers, with 20 additional quality control studies. MRI tagging is being used to optimize protocol and obtain better results of regional myocardial function.

  5. Specific Aims (summary) • Determine the relationship between baseline regional and global (systolic and diastolic), and the change in regional and global LV function over 3-5 years. • Determine the relationship b/w the baseline subclinical CV diseases and the change in baseline regional and global LV function. • Determine the relationship between cardiovascular risk factorsat baseline and the change in regional and Global LV function

  6. Study Population • The projected sample size is 1300 total (recruited from the six MESA Field Centers) with 20 additional quality control studies designed to assess the reproducibility. • Total: 1320 (eligible:1762) (1632) • WFU: 85 • Columbia: 338 (336) • JHU: 482 (361) • Minnesota: 248 • NWU: 123 (121) • UCLA: 486 (481)

  7. Tagging MRI • MRI Training Sessions (GE & Siemens Technicians) • Main Purpose: Improving Protocol • Tagging Optimization • Obtaining better results of regional myocardial function • Major efforts to acquire same slices positions as primary MR study

  8. MRI Tagging Status
