Future Ready Core English – 4 Credits Math – 4 Credits Science – 3 Credits Social Studies – 4 credits Health/PE – 1 credit 6 Electives – ~ 2 Required Electives (any combination of CTE, Foreign Language, and Arts) ~ 4 electives from a specified Concentration Area 28 credits are required in order to graduate from Pisgah High School. The requirements above account for 22 of the 28 credits.

  4. Math…it all adds to your success! Foundations of Math I in Fall of 9th Grade to help some students – NOT a math credit

  5. Science…It’s elemental • Some students will CHOOSE to take more than the 3 required sciences • A small number of students will choose to “double up” and take Biology and Chemistry in 10th grade in order to make their 11th and 12th grade schedules available for as many honors science courses as offered. • Chemistry is not required for graduation, but many college programs, even at the community college level, may require Chemistry. Check college websites!! • Looking to be a NC Scholar? Will need Chemistry to qualify! Earth and Environmental Science Biology Physical Science OR Chemistry

  6. Social Studies • World History • American History I • American History II • Civics Students taking AP US History will follow a bit different path, but still complete 4 social studies credits

  7. Health and PE One credit of Health and PE required, most often completed in 9th grade

  11. Career and Technical Education A CTE Concentration Area means that you choose from 1 of 11 Career Cluster Areas, and take 4 courses from within that cluster. One of the 4 courses must be a level II . Myth: Take any 4 CTE courses and you will have a concentration area

Resources Principles of Business Animal Science I Equine Science I Equine Science II Information Technology Introduction to T & I Foundations of Information Technology Computer Engineering 1 Computer Engineering 2 Hospitality & Tourism Foods I MSITA Sports & Entertainment Mkt. I Sports & Entertainment Mkt. II These are just 3 of the many CTE sequences available at PHS!

  13. Arts Education • A concentration of classes within Arts would include 4 courses from any combination of: • Art • Music • Drama • as long as one course is a level II course

  15. ROTC A concentration of classes within ROTC would include 4 courses in an ROTC sequence with at least one level II course

  17. Academic A concentration of classes within Academics would include courses in any combination from Honors, AP, Foreign Language that are in addition to those fulfilling core requirements

  20. NC Academic Scholars Program • 4 English Language Arts I, II, III, IV • 4 Math (Alg. I, Alg. II, Geometry, and higher level math with Alg. II as prerequisite, or Integrated I, II, III with a higher math course in which Integrated Math III is a prerequisite) • 3 Science (Chemistry, Bio, and an Earth/Environmental Science course 4Social Studies (World History, American History I, American History II, Civics) 4Elective credits constituting a concentration recommended from one of the following: CTE, JROTC, Arts, Academic • 3.5 Unweighted GPA • 2 Languages (2 credits of the same) • 3 Higher level courses taken during junior and/or senior years which carry 5 or 6 quality points, such as AP, Advanced CTE/CTE credentialing courses, online course, other honors or above designated courses

  26. TESTING • The PLAN (10th) – required of all sophomores in NC. Free of charge, great practice for the ACT • PSAT (10th/11th) – optional. Small fee, great practice for the SAT • ACT (11th) – required of all juniors in NC. Free of charge, can be used as College Entrance Exam scores • SAT (11th) – optional. Good to take spring of 11th grade so that student could choose to re-take ACT or SAT in September of October of Senior year Aspire Free test prep can be found at cfnc.org, actstudent.org, and collegeboard.com
