  1. Fairy Tales By: Jess Kinville Katelyn Soucy Kate Mello

  2. Old: The Ugly Duckling The Ugly Duckling was a great story for kids. • It teaches kids that beauty isn’t just skin deep • Another thing that it teaches kids to be considerate of other people’s feelings. • It also shows kids not to make fun of someone because of the way they look.

  3. Old: Princess and the Pea This story is good for kids because: • It teaches kids to be themselves and it also teaches them to be honest. • This also tells kids to stay true to themselves • To not do what other people do just to look good in front of others.

  4. Modern: Enchanted This movie is good for kids because: • It shows kids to stay true to their friends. • It also shows them that they should always be considerate of others feelings. • It teaches kids to tell the truth.

  5. Modern: Pinocchio This movie has good and bad morals in it: • It teaches kids that if they lie about something it will keep leading up to more lies. • This also tells kids to think before they act. • A bad thing is that it teaches kids that things will always come easy since Pinocchio got what he wanted immediately when he wanted to become a real boy.

  6. Hidden Messages In some of these fairy tales there are messages or morals intertwined within the story line. Ugly Duckling: in this story the little duckling is shunned because of his looks. This may make some children think that it is okay to profile others. Though parents should not be concerned because in the end of the story everyone who made fun of the ugly duckling apologized. Princess and the Pea: in this story a young prince is seeking a beautiful bride so he decides to have a contest that involves young women to spend the night at the palace sleeping on twenty mattresses and set a pea underneath them all, yet every morning when he would ask the young ladies how they slept they said that it was fine. Then one night a young woman came knocking on the palace gate and she too slept on the 20 mattresses and in the morning she told the prince that there was something hard under her mattresses, at that moment he knew that she was the one for him.

  7. Hidden messages cont. Though parents should not be concerned about this story because it doesn’t really have any bad messages and it tells kids to tell the truth. Enchanted: this movie is about a princess in a fairy tale world who falls through a well and ends up in New York City in reality. She makes some new friends along the way, but she also stays true to her old friends. Parents should not be concerned about their children watching this movie, although there is one scene with a dragon in it that may frighten small children. Pinocchio: this movie is about a puppeteer that designs puppets and one day he makes a talking puppet, named Pinocchio, that wants to be a real boy. One day he meets a fairy and she grants him the wish to become a real boy. He makes a friend, Jiminy Cricket, and he acts as Pinocchio's conscience to keep him out of trouble. He attends school and makes friends but every time he lies his nose grows so people can tell that he was lying. Parents could be concerned because of Pinocchio’s constant lying and they think they can get away with lying because they know their nose won’t grow like Pinocchio’s and their parents won’t know that they are lying.

  8. Old Fairy Tales Modern Fairy tales Similar • All four stories contain morals. • All of these story’s characters have dreams or goals. • Most of these stories are made into movies and books. • Cartoon characters. • They had no color but as time went on they added color. • Better graphics. • One of the new movies uses real people to tell the story, rather than cartoons. Compare and Contrast

  9. Targeted & Appealing To Children We do not feel that these Fairy Tales are targeted to the kids because they’re not trying to hide bad messages within them. Most teenagers also enjoy these Fairy Tales just as much as the children do. It appeals and attracts kids because on the bright colors they have and all of the pictures they have to go alone with what they had wrote about.
